Over 2.5 Juventus Corners

Juventus have racked up 3+ corners in both of their Champions League matches so far. They won exactly three corners on their trip to Villarreal, which ended in a 2-2 draw, and managed four corners when they welcomed Dortmund in a game that ended in a 4-4 draw.

Real Madrid allowed Kairat Almaty to have three corners in their 5-0 win over the lowest-ranked side in the Champions League. They also allowed Marseille to win four corners in their 2-1 win over the Ligue 1 side, so Madrid haven’t been the best at preventing sides from racking up decent corner counts.

Juventus are averaging 5.57 corners per game across their seven matches in Serie A this season. This number does drop to 2.67 per game when looking at their away matches, but Juventus’ success with corners so far, paired with Madrid’s inability to keep the opposition corner count down, should lead to the Italian side winning at least three corners in this matchup.

Real Madrid GK to Make 2+ Saves

As I briefly touched on in the above section, Real Madrid are far from secure at the back. Courtois has been called into action eight times across his two games in the Champions League so far this term (4.00 per game), maintaining an impressive 88.9% save percentage across these games.

It’s fair to say that without the heroics of Courtois, Real Madrid wouldn’t have won both of their games in the Champions League this season, so we can expect him to be an important part of any success that Madrid get here. Courtois has also been tested on 14 occasions across his nine LaLiga matches so far this term (1.56 per 90).

Juventus have drawn 2+ saves from the opposition keeper in both of their Champions League matches so far. Juventus have drawn both of these games against Dortmund and Villarreal, but these matches have produced 12 goals, so we can expect Juventus to carry a decent attacking threat in this encounter with Madrid not completely set at the back.

Kenan Yildiz to have 2+ Shots

Yildiz has been sensational for Juventus so far this season with 10 goal contributions across his 13 appearances in all competitions. Two of these goal contributions have come across his two appearances in the Champions League this term, with the 20-year-old having seven shots across these matches (3.77 per 90).

His shot volume remains high when looking at his performances in Serie A this campaign. He’s had 14 shots across his seven appearances in the Italian top flight (2.08 per 90) with five of these efforts finding the target (0.74 per 90). He had two shots in Juventus’ most recent outing as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Como in Serie A.

I can see Real Madrid offering up opportunities to a forward-thinking Juventus side here. Real Madrid conceded 15 shots against Marseille in their 2-1 win over the French side on Matchday 1 of the Champions League. They also conceded 11 shots against Kairat Almaty in their 5-0 win over the Kazakhstani side. These shot totals would suggest that Juventus will get chances here, and Yildiz in particular can profit as one of the Old Lady’s best players so far this season.

Aurelien Tchouameni to Commit 1+ Fouls

Tchouameni has picked up a yellow card in each of his last two LaLiga matches against Villarreal and Getafe. He’s committed six fouls across his eight starts in the Spanish top flight (0.73 per 90), but I’d expect him to be more regularly tested here against a steely Juventus midfield.

Tchouameni committed two fouls and was shown a yellow card in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Marseille on Matchday 1 of the Champions League. He contested five duels in the game, notably losing all five.

Tchouameni committed 26 fouls across his 31 LaLiga appearances last season (0.87 per 90), though this record is a tad skewed as Tchouameni had to play as a centre-back for large periods of the campaign. He has returned to his usual central midfield role this season, which should result in a more consistent card and foul streak.

📈 Real Madrid v Juventus Form & Tactics

Real Madrid are progressing well under the tutelage of Xavi Alonso. The only defeat they’ve suffered in any competition so far this season was a 5-2 loss in the Madrid derby at the hands of Atletico Madrid. Aside from that defeat, Madrid have won their other 10 matches in all competitions this term.

I still think that Madrid are a bit vulnerable defensively, which is a weakness that becomes more obvious when they play in this competition. Marseille were unlucky not to at least take a point from their trip to the Bernabeu a few weeks ago, with the Ligue 1 side having 15 shots and generating an xG of 0.73, only losing to two Kylian Mbappe penalties.

An obvious strength of this Madrid side is their strength in the final third. They had 15 shots on target in their 2-1 win over Marseille on Matchday 1, resulting in an xG of 3.74 - though this included two penalties. Madrid will always be in games with this attacking talent and depth, even if their backline has looked a little shaky in recent weeks against more elite opposition.

Juventus started the season really well, but have struggled to find results in recent weeks, with no wins from their last five matches - four of these matches ended in draws. They lost their first game of the Serie A campaign against Como last time out, with Cesc Fabregas’ side fully deserving their win over Igor Tudor’s side.

Juventus have real attacking depth now following their activity in the summer transfer window. Vlahovic and Openda are both options to lead the line, while the likes of Ylidiz and Conceicao can offer much-needed flair and creativity. The makeup of their backline is less convincing, so goals could be on the cards here with both sides having real attacking talent.

📔 Real Madrid v Juventus Formation & Team News

Real Madrid have been lining up in a 4-2-3-1 under Xabi Alonso, with his biggest challenge being finding a balance to settle the egos of some of Madrid’s biggest stars. There are around six or seven players who could fit into the four starting spots available in Alonso’s side.

One key battle worth keeping an eye on is Guler and Bellingham. Alonso has already hinted that there is only space for one in his side, and it’ll be interesting to see how that plays out with Guler showing promising form in the early weeks of the campaign.

Another of those dilemmas appears on the wing with Vinicius and Rodrygo battling every week for a starting spot; a large part of Alonso’s task is balancing the attitude of these star players, which has been the downfall of previous managers at big clubs. Madrid are missing a few key defenders, including Dean Huijsen, Dani Carvajal, and Antonio Rudiger.

Juventus have lined up in a few different shapes so far this season, but are expected to go with a 4-3-3 here. This should set up plenty of 1v1 battles all over the park, with the duels in the wide areas standing out. I think Conceicao has the beating of Carreras on that side, and Valverde will have to fill in at right back here against Yildiz, which could end up being another mismatch.

Juventus have a few players who are doubts for this game, the most notable being Edon Zhegrova, who had shown some positive early signs for the Old Lady prior to his injury, which has ruled him out until at least November.
