Kai Havertz popped up with a crucial winning goal in Lisbon in midweek to give The Gunners a one goal advantage heading into the second leg of their Champions League Quarter Final.

It has been a frustrating season for the German International, who has been limited to just 264 minutes of Premier League action following injury issues. His goal in the Champions League was in addition to one in the previous tie against Bayer Leverkusen, and an assist against Southampton in a losing FA Cup effort.

Their opponents, Bournemouth, have become draw specialists of late, a terrifying prospect for Arsenal who look to avoid further slip ups in their pursuit of the Premier League crown. Away from home they have conceded more goals than all bar Burnley, so they will have to be better at the back than they have been for the majority of the season.

Igor Thiago made his debut for Brazil during the international break, making two substitute appearances and scoring a penalty against Croatia, which puts the cherry on what has been a super breakthrough season for the bustling forward.

He will have fond memories of facing Everton earlier this season, having notched a hat-trick at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in a 2-4 win for Brentford. The Bees come into this game having drawn their last four. They currently occupy 7th spot with a brilliant chance of playing in Europe next season. They are only three points off 5th too.

Everton are one place below Brentford, level on points with a slightly worse goal difference. They’re a really good side on the road, where only three teams have picked up more points, but I fancy Brentford to cause them problems as they did earlier in the season.

Diego Gomez has been playing in a wide role in recent weeks as Brighton work through some injury issues, operating advance on the right hand side. This new role has led to two goals and one assist in his last five outings for The Seagulls.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side are on a good run of four wins from their last five after a long winless league run. They will have their eyes on a European place and have a favourable run-in from which to accumulate points, as they prepare to face four of the current bottom six.

Burnley have won just once since late October. They are better at home than they are away, but have still lost more often than not and conceded 1.5 goals per game.

Florian Wirtz enjoyed a productive international break, scoring twice and assisting twice Germany’s 3-4 win over Switzerland, before he and his Liverpool teammates were swept aside by Manchester City during a 4-0 thumping in the FA Cup Quarter Final.

I think it’s fair to say that Wirtz has not yet justified his £100+ million fee following his Summer transfer, with just six direct goal contributions in 27 appearances, an area in which five of his teammates have outperformed him, but he did find the net in the reverse fixture of this one and I’m hopeful that his recent performance for Germany will have generated the return of some confidence.

Fulham are weak away from Craven Cottage, averaging a point per game and conceding 1.7 goals per game. City, United, Newcastle, Villa and Chelsea all scored 2+ goals when facing them on home soil, so Liverpool should be able to do the same.
