I watched Liverpool on Wednesday night produce a Klopp-style performance to sail past Galatasaray after being a goal down from the away leg. They were all over an insipid Gala like a rash from the first whistle, racking up 32 shots with 16 on target, and an xG of 4.88.

Despite only registering one direct goal contribution, Hugo Ekitike had the highest combined xG + xA if you take away Mo Salah’s penalty. He led the press brilliantly off the ball, and when Liverpool were in possession, Ekitike’s explosive style created plenty of chaos and space for his teammates. He also has recent league form, with a goal and two assists against West Ham.

Brighton will be tough opponents as they are in pretty good form at the moment, with three wins in their last five games. But it felt as if Liverpool’s performance on Wednesday set a standard in terms of energy levels that they must continue to replicate to salvage their season.

When assessing the reasoning for this one, it’s probably best to avoid Fulham’s recent matches, given it has been 326 minutes since they last found the net. But, 218 of those were played without my selection for this one, Harry Wilson, who has easily been Fulham’s best player this season.

Despite missing a few recent matches, Wilson’s tally of three direct goal involvements is still as many as any player for either side has managed in the last three games, with Alex Iwobi and Hannibal Mejbri matching that tally.

My hope is that the visit of Burnley can breathe life into Fulham’s attacking play, as it has done for so many other so far this season. Their goals against column away from Turf Moor reads 35 goals conceded in 15 games, but even looking back to the reverse fixture between the two sides, Fulham scored three times, with Wilson scoring one and assisting two.

One of the bright spots of another unfulfilled season for Chelsea, Joao Pedro has adapted to leading the line at one of the Premier Leagues biggest clubs pretty well, probably finding it easier to fit in by following the well trodden route from Brighton to Chelsea that a few of his current teammates have also walked. He has scored 21 goals in 45 games in all competitions, 14 of which have come in the Premier League.

His substitution in the midweek defeat to PSG on the hour marked surely signalled that he will be starting this one, especially with the international break next weekend. He has scored five goals in the last five league games, so is in good form.

Everton are still adapting to their new home on Bramley Moore Dock, which can be demonstrated by their away points tally being five points higher than their home tally. Burnley aside, who we know are a lost cause away from home, The Toffee’s have failed to keep a clean sheet in six of their last seven at home.

This is a big game for Leeds, who will see this fixture as one of their best opportunities to pick up points towards survival. But, I want to be with a Brentford player in this one. Their away record is not as strong as at home, but it’s still pretty good, the 10th best in the league, with only seven teams scoring more. It suits the speedy wide players they have in Schade and Ouatarra to hit teams on the break.

The latter of those two is my selection for this one, having shown in recent weeks that he can cause issues to those teams down at the bottom, assisting against both Wolves and Burnley. He has eight direct goal involvements in 19 starts this season, which is really good going.

He will also likely be up against a makeshift left back, given Gudmundsson got himself sent off against Crystal Palace last weekend. Leeds carry a threat at home, but equally they give up opportunities, only five teams have conceded more home goals.
