I’ve always been obsessed with sports. Over time, this passion naturally evolved into a fascination with stats and sports betting, especially football. The Premier League is my bread and butter, having grown up watching it, but my interest spans leagues across the globe - if there's a game on, I'll find a punting angle for it.

Sevilla v Real Madrid

🗓️

Kick Off: Sunday 18th May at 18:00

🏆

Competition: La Liga

  • As of Thursday night, the La Liga title race is over with Barcelona being crowned champions

  • Both teams have scored in seven of the last eight meetings between these two teams

  • Over 4.5 cards have been shown in six of the last seven head-to-head clashes

After Barcelona clinched the league title on Thursday night, Real Madrid are left with little to play for. Their Champions League elimination and Copa del Rey final defeat at the hands of Arsenal and Barcelona have compounded what's been a tough season.

It's hard to imagine morale in the Madrid camp isn't now even lower, and that could well be reflected in their remaining performances. We saw hints of that already in their narrow 2-1 win over Mallorca, where they needed a last-minute goal to scrape past a side they should have beaten comfortably.

Sevilla, however, haven’t had much to boast about either. It’s been a disappointing campaign for them as well, with only 10 league wins to their name.

With the title now out of reach, Real Madrid are unlikely to approach this match with high intensity. They've been solid defensively, conceding just 1.06 goals per game on average, while Sevilla haven’t exactly been prolific in front of goal, scoring just 1.11 per match.

Defensively, Sevilla have also been relatively stable. Given the lack of attacking urgency and both sides’ modest scoring records, a low-scoring affair seems likely.

Madrid looked uninspired in their last outing, scraping past Mallorca despite having little to play for - and now, with the league officially out of reach, motivation may dip even further. Expect potential squad rotation and a few dejected attitudes in the lineup.

Sevilla, meanwhile, are coming off a win after a difficult run and will be eager to finish the season on a positive note. With home advantage and a wounded Madrid side visiting, this presents a good opportunity for Sevilla to get at least a point.

🔴 Sevilla Struggle For Consistency

It’s been a difficult season for Sevilla, who currently sit 13th in the table, just seven points above the relegation zone. With only 10 wins and a goal difference of -9, consistency has been hard to come by.

Prior to their victory earlier this week, they had gone eight matches without a win, highlighting their struggles. That said, they have been marginally better at home, averaging 1.33 points per game at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán compared to just 0.94 on the road.

A Season to Forget for Real Madrid

On paper, Madrid are finishing the league strongly with eight wins from their last nine La Liga games, but context is everything. With the title now mathematically out of reach, and having crashed out of both the Champions League and Copa del Rey, motivation is a serious question mark.

This will be just the second season since 2009 that Los Blancos finish without a major trophy, a stat that speaks volumes for a club of their size. Add to that four defeats in four Clásicos this season, and you’ve got a side that looks emotionally and mentally drained.

📊 Sevilla v Real Madrid Head-to-Head Key Stats

These sides last met in December, with Real Madrid coming out 4-2 winners. While the scoreline suggests a comfortable win, it arguably flattered Madrid - Sevilla created plenty of chances, and the expected goals were fairly even.

Both teams have scored in seven of the last eight meetings, suggesting a strong trend for goals at both ends. Discipline has also been a theme in this fixture, with 5+ cards shown in six of the last seven encounters.

Notably, Sevilla have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 12 matches against Los Blancos.
