📈 Stoke v Oxford Form & Tactics

Stoke City are not in good form. No win in any competition since January 10th, and no Championship win since January 4th. They did get a point last time out and won the xG battle as well, but that was against Leicester, who are also really struggling for form themselves.

Goal scoring and chance creation are the main problems for Stoke. An average of 1.09 goals per game and only 1.2 xG generated per match is indicative of a lower mid-table team. They recently went three matches in a row without scoring in the league.

Oxford are bang in trouble from a relegation perspective, but they also look up for the fight at this stage. A hard-earned point at arguably the best team in the league at the weekend should spur them on, but they also need to find a way to score goals and even create chances.

They haven't found the net in five of their last seven matches, nor have they created 1 xG or more in four of the last six matches. Looking even further back, Oxford haven't actually created 2 xG in a match all season, and therein lies the issue.

📔 Stoke v Oxford Formation & Team News

Stoke will probably play a 3-4-3 shape with Milan Smit still striving to break his duck through the middle with Bae and Cisse in support from wide.

There are no new injuries or suspension concerns for Stoke, but arguably their most important player is still out injured in Viktor Johansson. With Sam Gallagher and Robert Bozenik still out there is a paucity of options up top, so Robins will be hoping that Smit will convert a chance sooner rather than later.

Oxford will have to replace Jamie McDonnell in central midfield; this will probably be with Will Vaulks, and there could be rotation elsewhere in the 4-2-3-1 formation that we expect Matt Bloomfield to play.

There aren't any new injuries or suspension concerns for Bloomfield, but Michal Helik probably has enough fitness to start a game in the back four.
