After a busy midweek of DFB Pokal action, the Bundesliga resumes this weekend, and it’s incredibly tight at the top. Dortmund find themselves in fourth only by virtue of a superior goal difference over Bayer Leverkusen, but they are just two points behind RB Leipzig in second.

Meanwhile, Augsburg are battling at the opposite end of the standings, one position above the relegation spots.

These Augsburg v Dortmund Betting Stats also offer further insight ahead of Friday's Bundesliga clash.

Dortmund to Win @ 1.65

Augsburg completed the league double over Dortmund last season, helping them secure a respectable 12th-place finish in the league. The second head-to-head encounter came early on in Niko Kovac’s tenure, before he had implemented his 5-2-3. Since that change, the Black and Yellows have been transformed, and produced some standout results.

Meanwhile, Augsburg seem to have regressed since last season, and they sit near the bottom of the league. The loss of captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw to injury has proven to be tough to deal with, and Kristijan Jakic has had to deputise in an unfamiliar centre back position in recent weeks.

Augsburg come into this clash low on confidence after a heavy 6-0 defeat at the WWK Arena against RB Leipzig, where six different players found the net. They also suffered a loss earlier in the season against Bayern Munich, highlighting their struggles against the league’s top sides.

Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.50

The 3-2 scoreline in that game suggests a close game, but the Bavarians were dominant. Bayern racked up 4.24 xG from 20 shots, taking a 3-0 lead shortly after the half-time break. Augsburg fought back late on, but were unable to score the decisive equaliser.

However, it is worth noting that the Fuggerstadter have only failed to score in one game this season, with over 2.5 goals landing in seven of their eight Bundesliga matches. Augsburg have looked positive in the final third, and will hope to cause this Dortmund side problems.

But their main task will be keeping the Black and Yellow at bay, and with a makeshift backline, that could be a real challenge - Dortmund have scored 27 goals from their 12 matches in all competitions this season.

Serhou Guirassy to Score or Assist @ 1.50

In fact, Niko Kovac’s men have got on the scoresheet in every match so far this season - a testament to their talent in the final third. Serhou Guirassy has been central to that attacking efficiency, as he has six goals and three assists from his 11 appearances this campaign.

After starting the season in fine form, landing this selection in seven of the first eight matches in all competitions, he has been on a bit of a cold streak of late, and has blanked in his last three starts.

Guirassy was rested midweek in the DFB Pokal, and this upcoming match against an Augsburg side who have conceded the most goals in the Bundesliga is the perfect opportunity for the 29-year-old to get back on track. He landed this bet with an assist when he last faced Augsburg, so will hope to repeat that this weekend.

Mert Komur Over 0.5 Shots @ 1.25

It has been a real breakthrough campaign for Mert Komur so far - he has started six Bundesliga games, and already scored twice. The 20-year-old featured sporadically for Augsburg last season and has already managed to match his goal-scoring tally from that previous campaign.

Even more impressively, the German international got on the scoresheet against Bayern Munich earlier in the season, registering a total of four shots with two hitting the target against the German champions. Komur is averaging 2.41 shots per 90 this season, and has landed this bet in all eight of his appearances in all competitions.

Komur missed out last weekend against Leipzig through illness, but seems to have recovered well, and will be pushing to reclaim his starting spot up front after being benched midweek against Bochum. The striker has scored both of his goals this season at the WWK Arena, and will be eager to return to play in front of a home support.

📈 Augsburg v Dortmund Form & Tactics

Augsburg got off to the perfect start this season as they beat Freiburg in gameweek one, but it has been tough going since then. They lost their next four matches in the league, conceding a total of 11 goals in that time.

Fuggerstadt did manage to beat Wolfsburg after that and take a point against FC Koln, but just when it looked like they were gathering momentum, they were demolished by RB Leipzig last weekend in a crushing 6-0 defeat. Goalkeeper Finn Dahmen had a game to forget, making two errors that led to goals. They were dealt more disappointment in the DFB Pokal midweek, eliminated by Bochum, who currently play in the second division.

Dortmund fared much better in the cup competition, and they managed to secure progression to the next round. Julian Brandt, who has featured mostly from the bench this season, scored his fourth goal of the season, and it proved again to be a big one. It was the equalising goal against Frankfurt, which sent the game to extra-time, and then penalties, during which the Black and Yellows eventually prevailed.

Since being dealt their first loss of the season against an in-form Bayern Munich, Dortmund have bounced back strongly in terms of results, but they haven’t been quite as convincing as they were at the start of the campaign. Still, the fact that they have been able to grind out positive results even whilst not quite being at their best is a great sign for Niko Kovac.

📔Augsburg v Dortmund Formation & Team News

Dortmund were able to make some changes midweek, with the most notable being that Serhou Guirassy dropped to the bench. However, the Guinea international should be in line to slot back into the starting eleven this weekend. Julian Brandt has been amongst the goals this season, while Max Beier was the hero against FC Koln last weekend with the late goal - both will be pushing to start in this match against Augsburg.

Jobe Bellingham was given a start in midfield midweek, and he played the full 120 minutes, but Felix Nmecha is likely to partner Marcel Sabitzer at the weekend.

Sandro Wagner was able to make several changes midweek, with a lot of his regular starters only featuring from the bench. He could go for a similar lineup to that which lost against Leipzig, with Mert Komur leading the line, Elias Saad, and Fabian Rieder supporting him. After his horror show against Leipzig, Dahmen was benched against Bochum, and Nedilijko Labrovic will hope to retain his place in between the sticks.
