Both Teams to Score

Bayer Leverkusen come into this match on an eight-game unbeaten run, but still are underdogs against PSG. However, they have every reason to approach this match with confidence, given that they have scored six goals in their last two matches. In fact, the last time they failed to score was all the way back in April.

It seems like a good time to face the European champions, too. The Parisians have only won two of their last five matches in all competitions, while they have also shown signs of struggle on their travels.

PSG have kept just one clean sheet in their five away matches this term, with BTTS landing in three of those. In fact, the Parisians’ only shutout on the road came against a Nantes side who sit 14th Ligue 1, with the lowest xG tally in the entire division.

Bayer Leverkusen to have 3+ Shots on Target

Since their victory against Barcelona, PSG have been held to back-to-back draws, which has been enough to knock the Parisians off top spot in the French top flight.

Missing key players in midfield has made them look a lot more vulnerable in recent weeks. Joao Neves and Fabian Ruiz have been particularly notable absentees, while regular captain Marquinhos has also been dealing with an injury. All three are set to miss this midweek clash.

Against a depleted PSG side, Leverkusen will fancy their chances of causing problems in the final third, especially given that they have registered at least three shots on target in all seven games under their new manager.

As it stands, Leverkusen currently rank 25th in the Champions League standings, which puts them out of the qualification spots. There is still plenty of time to go in the group stages, but Leverkusen might need to release the handbrake a bit and chase the three points.

Aleix Garcia to have 1+ Shots

Aleix Garcia featured sporadically last season under Xabi Alonso, but has benefitted massively from the departure of Granit Xhaka, adopting a much larger role this season.

The Spaniard has featured in every game this campaign, during which he has registered an attempt at goal in eight out of 10 appearances, averaging 1.12 shots per 90.

He looks a great price for a shot here at odds of 1.73, especially given Leverkusen's need to be on the front foot here due to their aforementioned position in the current league standings.

Warren Zaire-Emery to Commit 1+ Fouls

Warren Zaire-Emery has been a key player for PSG this season, filling in across multiple different positions. In the absence of Marquinhos, the 19-year-old has even taken on the responsibility of captaincy to highlight Zaire-Emery’s maturity and talent. He has made 11 appearances this season in all competitions and has registered a foul in nine of those matches.

His average of 1.77 fouls per 90 is amongst the highest in the Parisians’ squad, and Zaire-Emery has seen a further uptick in infringement when featuring in a central midfield role. He committed two fouls against Barcelona on his last European outing, and three fouls against Marseille before that.

With both Joao Neves and Fabian Ruiz out, Zaire-Emery should be set to start in midfield against a Leverkusen side who have been great for drawing infringements. In fact, Die Werkself have drawn the most fouls in the Bundesliga this season, averaging 13.9 fouls drawn per game.

📈 Bayer Leverkusen v PSG Form & Tactics

It has been a positive start for Kasper Hjulmand as Leverkusen boss, and he is still yet to taste defeat. Since taking over from Erik ten Hag, Die Werkself have secured four wins and three draws, scoring a total of 16 goals in that time. However, they have kept just one clean sheet, so there is still work to do defensively.

Leverkusen were able to hold on to victory at the weekend as they beat Mainz 4-3 in a chaotic game at the MEWA Arena. Alex Grimaldo’s brace proved pivotal, while Christian Kofane and Martin Terrier also got on the scoresheet.

Despite the narrow margin of victory, Leverkusen were able to fashion seven big chances and 20 shots, which amounted to 3.47xG. In the end, the hosts mustered up just 1.61xG from 12 shots, so it was a well-deserved win.

PSG come into this clash having dropped points in consecutive games. Ethan Mbappe scored the late equaliser for Lille just before the international break, but it was PSG who needed the late goal against Strasbourg last time out.

Senny Mayulu provided the moment of inspiration for the Parisians, and despite a late onslaught, PSG were unable to find the winning goal at the Parc-des-Princes at the weekend.

📔 Bayer Leverkusen v PSG Formation & Team News

Despite PSG struggling against Strasbourg at the weekend, Achraf Hakimi was an unused substitute, as was Vitinha. His Portuguese compatriot Joao Neves is still a few weeks away from returning, and is joined by Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele in the infirmary.

Luis Enrique was boosted by the return of Bradley Barcola and Desire Doue, who were both fit enough to start at the weekend, while Kvicha Kvaratskhelia appeared off the bench for the final 30 minutes. Senny Mayulu, who scored against Strasbourg last time out and against Barcelona in the Champions League, might drop out of the lineup to make way for Achraf Hakimi.

Bayer Leverkusen have an equally as extensive list of injuries. Jarell Quansah was forced to withdraw from the England squad due to a knee injury, meaning Robert Andrich dropped into the back three against Mainz at the weekend.

With Exeqiuel Palacios out, and Andrich having to deputise at the back, both Aleix Garcia and Ezequiel Fernandez played the full 90 in midfield against Mainz, and they could be set for another big role in midweek.

Arthur also played the full 90 for the first time this season on the right flank, with Axel Tape and Lucas Vasquez both out injured.

Patrick Schick has missed the last few weeks with a muscle injury, while Malik Tillman also suffered a minor hamstring injury while on international duty with the USA, meaning Jonas Hofmann was handed his first start of the season against Mainz.
