Belgium have underperformed in recent international competitions, and it seems like a golden generation of players has been and gone with nothing to show for it.

Rudi Garcia has recently replaced Domenico Tedesco as manager, and Belgium will fancy their chances of progressing from Group G, which contains Egypt, Iran, and New Zealand.

🌍 How did Belgium qualify for the 2026 World Cup?

Belgium’s World Cup qualifying campaign went right down to the wire, and it came down to their matchday eight result.

Luckily for the Red Devils, they were up against minnows Liechtenstein, and it finished 7-0 in Liege. Belgium finished the group with five wins and three draws from their eight games, putting them two points ahead of Wales, who were eventually eliminated from the playoffs.

13 of Belgium’s 29 goals came against Liechtenstein over two fixtures, which shows how Belgium were ruthless in the easier matchups.

However, they did drop points twice against North Macedonia and once against Kazakhstan, despite the hosts being reduced to ten men.

👔 Who is the Belgium manager at the World Cup 2026?

Rudi Garcia’s first job in charge of the Belgium national side was to retain their status in League A of the Nations League. They finished third in a group alongside France, Italy, and Turkey under Tedesco, so had to contest a playoff match against Ukraine.

After a dreadful start, Belgium recovered in the second leg, and a 3-0 victory saw them win on aggregate. Since then, Belgium have remained undefeated, and the managerial change seems to have paid off.

🔎 Who are Belgium's key players to watch at World Cup 2026?

Jeremy Doku

Rudi Garcia seems set on a standard 4-2-3-1 formation, and Jeremy Doku is expected to play a key role on the left wing. The 23-year-old has impressed for Man City this season and has improved his end-product in the final third.

Doku has contributed three goals and nine assists across all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side this campaign, and he recorded five goals and two assists in eight appearances for Belgium in their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Youri Tielemans

Youri Tielemans has struggled with an ankle injury this season, but he is on the recovery trail and was available for Belgium during the March friendlies. Tielemans is expected to have a big role in midfield, playing alongside his Aston Villa clubmate Amadou Onana.

Tielemans featured in six of Belgium’s qualifying games, and he registered three goals and an assist. He has bags of experience and helped Belgium to a third-place finish at the 2018 World Cup.

Charles De Ketelaere

Romelu Lukaku was omitted from the Belgium squad for the March friendlies, as he has missed a chunk of the season through injury. Belgium are really lacking a focal point up top, and Charles De Ketelaere has been the one to step up to lead the line.

It’s not his natural position, but it marks a change with Garcia preferring quick, one-touch football, rather than relying on a target man. De Ketelarere fits the bill, and he managed two goals and three assists in five appearances during the qualifiers.

Best Free Bets, Offers & Betting Sites for World Cup 2026

The World Cup is the best time to create a new bookmaker account because the Bookmaker Offers are much better. Andy and the Andy's Bet Club experts have tried and tested the Free Bets, and here are their favourites:

The age of Belgium's Golden Generation has come and gone, and that is reflected in their odds to lift the World Cup.

Once one of the favourites for major tournaments with the plethora of ridiculous talent they boasted, they have now been reduced to a team priced as high as 40/1 to lift the World Cup this summer.

There is some talent there, but it is ageing, and they now rely on the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku to roll back the years.

It feels like Belgium's best chance to lift the World Cup has gone.

The likes of Hazard, Aldeweireld, Verthonghan, and many more are now retired, and they have heaped even more pressure on ageing stars like Lukaku and De Bruyne.

It's highly unlikely that Belgium will lift the World Cup in North America this summer.

Belgium are in Group G alongside Egypt, Iran, and New Zealand.

GK: Courtois

DEF: Castagne, Mechele, Theate, De Cuyper

MID: Tielemans, Onana, De Bruyne

ATT: Doku, Lukaku, Trossard

Belgium vs Egypt kicks off at 19:00 GMT on June 15. Belgium vs Iran kicks off at 19:00 GMT on June 21. New Zealand vs Belgium kicks off at 03:00 GMT on June 27.

Charles De Ketelaere is likely to play in place of KDB or Lukaku for Belgium.

De Bruyne is currently overcoming an eye injury, so there are questions raised over his fitness entering the World Cup.

Charles De Ketelaere has been a highly rated prospect for some time and has had a solid season at Atalanta in Serie A.

Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku are on penalties, while Kevin De Bruyne, Zeno Debast, and Maxim De Cuyper are on free-kicks.
