📈 Bologna v Juventus Form & Stats
Bologna are a very interesting side because they’ve been hovering around the European spots in Serie A for the last three seasons, finishing between 5th and 9th in this period. They look to be one of the few sides in Serie A that can look to shake up the established order, with Bologna sitting 5th in Serie A, and also going strongly in the Europa League.
Vincenzo Italiano is a top coach and is able to squeeze the maximum out of this Bologna side, which does have some really talented players. Italiano is very passionate, as Italian managers usually are, with his most notable achievements being reaching the Conference League final with Fiorentina twice, and winning the Coppa Italia with Bologna last season.
Juventus were forced to part ways with Igor Tudor after an underwhelming start to the season, which has left the Old Lady outside of the European spots at the time of writing. Former Inter, Roma and Napoli manager, Luciano Spalletti, has been drafted in to try and fix the problems that Juventus face, and he’s made a solid start, losing just one of the nine matches in charge.
Juventus did face defeat in their most recent Serie A clash against Napoli, a game they lost 2-1 and failed to really offer a significant attacking threat with just the two shots on target and an xG of 0.29. Aside from that defeat, Juventus have won their last four matches - including two wins in the Champions League against Bodo/Glimt and Pafos.
📔 Bologna v Juventus Formation & Team News
Vincenzo Italiano’s preferred shape is a 4-2-3-1, as this is a structure that allows Bologna to be intense and press effectively. I’d compare them to Bournemouth in the Premier League, a fiercely aggressive side that aren't afraid to press from the front - especially at home.
Bologna will notably be without their starting goalkeeper in Lukasz Skorupski, who is expected to be out until the end of the month. Remo Freuler is also expected to miss out, which takes away a bit of experience from the Bologna midfield.
Juventus have changed their shape since Luciano Spalletti arrived at the clu,b with the Old Lady now opting for a 3-5-2 shape with Kenan Yildiz and Francisco Conceicao expected to be the two forwards. This mirrors the system that Massimiliano Allegri is having a lot of success with at Milan, with it not being uncommon for Italian coaches to poach ideas from their counterparts.
Juventus are usually well stocked upfront, but will be without Dusan Vlahovic for this clash, who is their second top scorer in Serie A this season with three goals to his name. Spalletti doesn’t seem too keen on the likes of Jonathan David or Lois Openda right now, but those players are decent options from the bench if Juventus need them.
