📅
Kick Off: Wednesday 2nd October at 20:00
🏆
Competition: Champions League
📺
Watch Live: TNT Sports Extra
In RB Leipzig’s second Champions League match of the season, they host Juventus at the Red Bull Arena in what could be a tightly contested affair. Both sides have had strong starts sitting unbeaten in 3rd and 2nd respectively in their leagues, although Leipzig are still looking to get their first UCL points on the board.
⭐ Leipzig v Juventus Best Bets
RB Leipzig have seen their players enter the book on just six occasions in their first five Bundesliga matches, the fewest of any side in the league. They’re also averaging a mere 8.4 fouls per 90 which ranks second to bottom in the Bundesliga.
Juventus too have been extremely clean this season, picking up just seven yellows in six matches, also the fewest in the league. None of their last six games have seen more than 4.5 cards distributed with an average of just 2.2 per 90 being produced.
Referee Francois Letexier also leans towards a more casual approach and is generally hesitant to book too many players in one game. The Frenchman has handed out an average of just 3.57 yellow cards per game this season and 3.84 over the span of his career. He’s given out four or fewer cards in seven of his last eight.
🔎 Leipzig v Juventus Players to Watch
🔴 Christoph Baumgartner
Despite having started just one game so far this season, Baumgartner is predicted to make the first 11 ahead of this clash, which opens up a variety of interesting markets. Last season the Austrian attacking-midfielder averaged both 2.11 fouls won, and 2.11 fouls committed per 90. Duels were frequent in his games and made for very interesting betting angles.
He’s picked it up this season just where he left off, averaging a remarkable 7.06 foul involvements per match, evenly split between fouls won and conceded.
⚫️ Dusan Vlahovic
Vlahovic is another key player to keep an eye on following his brace against Genoa. They were his first goals since the two he notched against Hellas Verona towards the end of August, and should be a much-needed confidence boost.
Many Juventus fans were beginning to lose patience with the Serbian international who is still yet to hit the ground running following his big money move from Fiorentina in January of 2022. He’ll be hoping to continue his season-turnaround by grabbing another goal or two in the Champions League and it’ll be interesting to see how he fares.

💻 Leipzig v Juventus Form & Tactics
It’s probably best to embrace the fact that this will be more of a tactically enticing affair than a goal-filled neutrals dream, at least from what we’ve seen of the sides so far.
Juventus are six games into the season and still yet to concede, also averaging under 0.45xGa per game. Thiago Motta, just like he did at Bologna, is clearly prioritising defence resilience over attacking threat and this is unlikely to change.
Unfortunately this comes at a cost, and Juventus have struggled to break teams down on multiple occasions this year. They’ve failed to find the back of the net on three occasions, meaning half of their league games have resulted in 0-0 draws.
The home side, RB Leipzig have also looked pretty tight at the back, keeping four clean sheets in their first five games. The only team who were able to breach them were reigning champions, Bayer Leverkusen. Leipzig haven’t conceded in any of their most recent three Bundesliga appearances and will probably aim to shut out Juventus with the priority being defensive solidity.

🏁 Leipzig v Juventus Ref Watch
- Francois Letexier’s refereeing style goes further beyond just keeping his cards in his pocket, also averaging just 19.86 fouls per game this season.
- Perhaps somewhat paradoxically, Letexier’s career record of 0.38 penalties per game is pretty high and suggests that Dusan Vlahovic and Lois Openda’s value in the goalscorer market could be slightly inflated on this occasion.
