Malmö v Häcken

• Häcken have only lost one of the last eight head-to-heads.

A Swedish Cup final goes down between two teams who have both been inconsistent, not hitting the heights many expected of them in the league. Malmö have been particularly disappointing with pre-season expectations in mind, sitting in 5th, while Häcken have had their own share of troubles and are placed in 8th position in Allsvenskan. 

Despite their troubles to date, Malmö are big favourites in this final, being priced at 1.4 to win the game. A draw gives you 3.4 in odds while Häcken are massive underdogs at 5.5.

The bookies expect a goal-laden encounter, with odds of 1.73 on over 2.5 goals.

Neither team has been in particularly eye-catching form, with both winning only two of their last five matches. 

⭐ Malmö v Häcken Predictions and Best Bets

The goalscoring form for both sides has been shaky this season, Malmö only average 1.33 goals for per game in Allsvenskan, while Häcken are slightly better, averaging 1.55 goals per game. In total, both have only seen a combined 39% of matches with over 2.5 goals per game in the league, lacking the finishing touch.

As such, and with a cup trophy at stake, we expect a close game. 1.57 for under 3.5 goals is a lovely price.

Malmö have only won twice in their last six matches, looking lacklustre. Häcken are a tough opponent and have themselves been beaten only once in six. They may be able to spring a surprise here and at least take the game to extra time, therefore, the +1 handicap on Häcken can be taken at 2.4. That bet lands if they win or draw.

🔵 Malmö Haplessly Blunt

After being so dominant last year, they have seen just about everything go against them to start off the 2025 Allsvenskan season. A lack of goals, strikers out of form, injuries to key players (including a fractured leg suffered by striker Erik Botheim) have all played into their poor form.

The reigning Allsvenskan champions had a solid start to the season, without being massively impressive in the Swedish Cup, but still managing to beat the likes of Elfsborg and IFK Göteborg on the way to the final. Since then, the league form has been a big letdown, only winning five of 12 matches and parking themselves in 5th place despite being huge favourites for the title. 

Goalscoring has been a big issue, only managing 16 goals in 12 matches. Their top scorers are both midfielders, Anders Christiansen and Lasse Berg Johnsen, with strikers Kiese Thelin (two goals) and Erik Botheim (goalless) missing the mark.

Simultaneously, their has been too shaky, only keeping two clean sheets in the last six matches.

Their underlying stats are not too shabby, having the 2nd-highest xG in the league with 19.9, although their xG against of 14.4 xG is too high for a side with title aspirations. A lack of sharpness in attack combined with a susceptibility to getting countered has led to an underwhelming campaign to date.

🟡 Defensive Woes Mitigated by Häcken

Häcken had a somewhat lucky escape from the group stages in the cup, losing 2-0 to Sirius but going through ahead of both Sirius and Öster on goal difference. In the knockouts, they were better, beating both Mjällby and Norrköping in impressive fashion, 1-0 and 3-1.

They have been hugely unlucky with injuries since the Allsvenskan campaign started, seeing their two main goalkeepers remain out for a long while, as well as the majority of the backline. Add to that the likes of top goal contributor Amor Layouni (3G/3A) as well as captain Simon Gustafson, who at least is fit and ready to start in this game, having played 90 minutes and grabbed a goal at the weekend.

They are still depleted but have managed to find some stability of late, picking up eight points in the last five matches, scoring eight and conceding six in that stretch. Ex-Serie A goalkeeper Etrit Berisha has added calm and composure to the back, helping solidify the defensive line.

Häcken have, despite some attacking worries, created a fair bit, scoring 17 goals in 11 games from 15.9 xG, only failing to find the net once in their last eight.

These two sides have not yet met this season. Last year, in Malmö’s title-winning campaign, they beat Häcken 4-0 at home back in September while drawing 2-2 away from home. 

In effect, Malmö have largely struggled against Häcken in recent years, only picking up that solitary win in the last seven matches, with their last win before that coming in April 2021.
