Marseille looked a real threat going forward against Nice (5-1 win), as they racked up 2.29xG from 13 efforts. The visitors also managed six corners, hitting this mark with ease. Les Phoceens have managed at least four corners in five of their eight matches in all competitions at the Velodrome Stadium this season, landing this bet against the likes of PSG and Atalanta.

Paixao has five goals from 14 appearances for the French club. Given that he scored 18 goals for Feyenoord last season, there is plenty of room for improvement, but Paixao has shown glimpses of his potential.

He scored a brace against Ajax in round two of the Champions League in his first home outing in the competition. He also got on the scoresheet against Sporting Lisbon, highlighting how he turns up for the European fixtures. This bet has landed in nine of the last 10 games which Paixao has started, and he will hope to maintain that record midweek.

Leonardo Balerdi was a doubt to feature against Nice, but did last for 77 minutes before being replaced by Conrad Egan-Riley. It seems like the Argentine international is still not quite at 100%, meaning Benjamin Pavard has become an incredibly important player at the back for Roberto De Zerbi.

Since completing a loan move from Inter Milan, Pavard is averaging 1.24 fouls per 90 for his new club, a notable increase on his 0.9 fouls per 90 average for the Nerazzurri last season. Pavard is tasked with being a lot more aggressive in his duels for Marseille - he has already been shown five yellow cards, despite only starting 12 matches across all competitions.

He will have to deal with Nick Woltemade on Tuesday night, who has proven to be a tough player to contain. The German international is averaging 1.52 fouls drawn per 90 this season in all competitions.

Eddie Howe was quick to dismiss the tag of Newcastle as a ‘cup side’ in a recent interview, but his side do possess the required traits to be an effective side in this competition. The Magpies have won three of their four matches in the Champions League, only losing to Barcelona.

Newcastle have seen BTTS in three of their last five matches across all competitions, and are likely to be tested at times by Marseille in this contest. Roberto De Zerbi’s side haven’t quite found their groove in the Champions League with just one win from their four matches, though this victory did come at home in a 4-0 battering of Ajax.

Marseille were beaten 1-0 by Atalanta in their last European outing, meaning they have won just one of their four Champions League matches so far, with the other three ending in losses. As it stands, Les Phoceens currently sit 25th in the standings, marginally outside of the playoff spots, so they will be desperate for their fortunes to change. If Marseille are to keep their qualification hopes alive, results will have to improve, and they should be front-footed in their approach on Tuesday night.

Nick Pope has been kept busy in Newcastle’s away games this season, averaging 3.71 saves per 90 in all competitions. The Englishman made six saves against USG in an earlier round in the Champions League, despite the Magpies running riot in a 4-0 win. Newcastle have conceded nine goals in their last three away matches, and Pope has racked up 14 saves across those games, highlighting how Newcastle have struggled at the back.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg missed out on Friday night as he continues to recover from a muscle injury, and Roberto De Zerbi will likely have to contend without the Danish international once again midweek. Geoffrey Kondogbia was thrust straight back into the starting lineup for the first time since mid-September, and seemed to struggle in midfield. He received a first-half booking before being hooked after 70 minutes. 

Arthur Vermeeren looked a bit more settled alongside him and had plenty of defensive work to get through. He contested a total of nine duels, winning three tackles, while also committing three fouls. Vermeeren repeated that feat just before the international break, as he racked up three fouls against Brest.

The Belgian international is averaging 2.11 fouls per 90 in all competitions this season, along with 2.47 tackles per 90. He has shown a real willingness to get stuck into duels this campaign, which makes this angle stand out.
