Desire Doue to have 1+ Shots on Target

Doue is coming off the back of a stellar 24/25 campaign in which he registered 30 goal contributions across his 61 appearances for PSG, despite only being 20 years old.

Doue had 13 shots across his seven appearances at the recent Club World Cup (2.12 per 90), with seven of these attempts finding the target (1.14 per 90).

Doue averaged 1.04 shots on target per 90 across his 31 appearances for PSG in Ligue 1 last season. We can expect this average to rise domestically this campaign, seeing as last season was Doue’s breakout season and he only started 18 games in Ligue 1.

Doue’s record in the Champions League last season is particularly eye-catching, with the winger registering 32 shots in the competition (3.89 per 90) with an impressive 17 of these attempts finding the target (2.06 per 90).

Achraf Hakimi to be Fouled 1+ Times

Hakimi has cemented himself as one of the best right-backs in world football, and his foul record across the 24/25 season really stands out to suggest that he will be hauled down at least once here.

Hakimi registered four goal contributions across his seven appearances at the recent Club World Cup, winning five fouls across these games (0.76 per 90).

This may not be the most standout record, but we see an increase in this average when looking at Hakimi’s appearances in the Champions League last season. Hakimi averaged 1.34 fouls won per 90 and 1.17 successful dribbles per 90 in Europe’s elite competition last season.

Hakimi also maintained an average of 1.09 fouls won per 90 across PSG’s domestic Ligue 1 campaign last season and is set to line up against Mohammed Kudus here, who committed 39 fouls across his 32 appearances in the Premier League last season (1.35 per 90).

Should Hakimi manage to get himself in more advanced positions, as he quite regularly does, he will be faced with Djed Spence, who lost the most duels of any player in Tottenham’s recent 4-0 pre-season defeat to Bayern Munich and averaged 1.06 fouls committed per 90 in the Premier League last season.

PSG to Win

Despite missing out on the Club World Cup trophy over the summer, PSG are still the most dangerous and effective side in Europe, and they should be able to see off a Tottenham side that is in its very early stages of development under Thomas Frank.

PSG won four trophies under Luis Enrique last season, with their most notable victory coming in the Champions League final as they demolished a fatigued Inter Milan side. Tottenham may have won the Europa League, but that triumph represented their first trophy in some time, and a repeat of that achievement is unlikely here, seeing as PSG have one of the most complete squads in Europe.

Thomas Frank’s side fell to a 4-0 defeat in their most recent pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich, which illustrates the level of work still to be done by Frank at Tottenham to make them competitive against sides like PSG and Bayern Munich.

📈 PSG v Tottenham Form & Tactics

PSG carried their momentum from the 24/25 season into the Club World Cup in the summer. PSG battled past Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the knockout stages in convincing fashion, but were finally undone by a brilliant performance by Chelsea in the final, with the Blues lifting the trophy.

This defeat shouldn’t impact PSG too much; their squad is still amongst the most complete in Europe, and Luis Enrique was keen to point out that his side didn’t crash and burn at the Club World Cup. PSG have quality and depth all over the park, but the areas which really standout for this clash are the front three and the fullbacks.

Hakimi and Mendes motoring down either side is bound to cause Tottenham problems, especially seeing as Frank hasn’t had much time to install a more solid defensive strategy following Ange’s free-for-all football. The fullbacks will support a talented front three of Doue, Dembele, and Kvaratskhelia, who would have seen how Tottenham imploded in their most recent friendly against Bayern Munich.

Tottenham are still building under Thomas Frank, and this Super Cup clash may have come just a few months too early for the Lilywhites when considering that they’re facing up against a side who are much further along in their development.

Tottenham have played five friendlies under Thomas Frank so far - they’ve only lost one of these games (4-0 v Bayern Munich) but the performances in each of these matches would suggest that Frank needs time, but he also needs players to account for the glaring gaps in Tottenham’s squad such as the need for a creative attacking midfielder following long term injuries to Kulusevski and Maddison.

One area where Tottenham could get joy here is through fast breaks, just as Chelsea did in the Club World Cup final. Johnson and Kudus can act as outlets for Tottenham to hit when PSG’s fullbacks go marauding forward, only Liverpool (14) scored more goals from fast breaks than Tottenham in the Premier League last season (10).

📊 PSG v Tottenham Key Stats

  • PSG have only lost two of their last 12 competitive matches, which came in the Club World Cup against Botafogo and Chelsea.

  • PSG’s front three last season (Doue, Dembele, and Kvaratskhelia) combined for 94 goal contributions last season across all competitions. Dembele accounted for 52% of these goal contributions.

  • PSG have replaced Gianluigi Donnarumma with talented young keeper Lucas Chevalier, who recorded a save percentage of 72.7% in Ligue 1 last season.

  • Only Wolves and the three relegated sides conceded more goals in the Premier League than Tottenham last season (65).

  • Tottenham were pretty strong on the road in the Europa League, losing just one of their three away knockout ties on the road to the trophy.

  • Tottenham have strengthened their squad with the likes of Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus this summer.
