Both Teams to Score

Betis have seen BTTS land in each of their last four La Liga matches, and they face a Nottingham Forest team in a clear period of transition under new manager Ange Postecoglou.

Forest's adoption of Postecoglou's attack minded, high risk philosophy is a drastic shift from their previous style. This bedding in process is evident; they have seen BTTS in two of their first three matches against Arsenal, Swansea, and Burnley.

While this new approach will take time to gel, it means Forest are committed to attacking, leaving them vulnerable at the back - a recipe for conceding.

This philosophy also makes Forest likely to score. Betis have conceded in their last four matches, and Postecoglou's system is designed to create chances. Despite potential rotation and a lack of experience at this level for some Forest players, their attacking talent should find opportunities against a Betis defence that has proven it can be breached.

With Betis consistently scoring and conceding at home, and Forest now playing a style that prioritises attack over defensive solidity, all signs point to both teams finding the net.

Antony to have 1+ Shots on Target

Antony has started the season with a ridiculous amount of shots. He’s taken 10 shots across his two appearances for Betis so far this season (5.59 per 90), with four of these efforts finding the target (2.24 per 90).

He looks like a completely different player in a Betis shirt having endured a tough spell at Man United. La Liga is much more suited to his strengths, as he lacked the speed and power to be an effective winger in the Premier League.

Antony scored five La Liga goals across his 15 starts in the division last season. He had 43 shots across these games (2.84 per 90), with 17 of these efforts finding the target (1.12 per 90).

Antony also showed his quality in the Conference League last season, as Betis battled to the final of the competition. He registered seven goal contributions across his nine appearances in the competition, whilst averaging 3.16 shots per 90 and 1.52 shots on target per 90.

Antony to Commit 1+ Fouls

Antony committed nine fouls across his nine appearances in the Conference League last season (1.05 per 90). He committed a further 15 fouls across his 17 appearances in La Liga (0.99 per 90).

One of the most striking aspects of Postecoglou’s attacking approach to games is how he views fullbacks. I remember being stunned seeing Udogie and Porro occupy attacking midfield roles at times when Tottenham were in possession, in a more drastic and bold manner to the inverted fullbacks we’ve seen become commonplace in the Premier League.

Antony will have the job of tracking Zinchenko, who is perfectly suited to this role with his previous experience as a midfielder. Zinchenko contested 12 duels and was fouled once in Forest’s 1-1 draw with Burnley last time out.

Dan Ndoye could also be operating down Antony’s side of the pitch which should aid our selection here, with Ndoye’s consistent record when it comes to winning fouls over the last few seasons.

Over 3.5 Real Betis Corners

I do think Betis will be able to grab control of the game here. Forest are still adapting to the demands of Postecoglou and their defensive game will suffer as a result.

Betis have had four or more corners in four of their six La Liga matches this season. The two games in which they didn’t manage to register at least four corners saw them finish on three corners, so they are regularly around this mark when it comes to the corner count.

Forest have conceded 16 corners across Ange Postecoglou’s first three games in charge of the club. Eight of these came against Arsenal, which is to be expected with how strong the Gunners are to set pieces, but they also conceded four corners against Burnley last time out.

Forest don’t have as much defensive care or caution in their game now, which should help Betis notch a few flag kicks.

Giovani Lo Celso to Score or Assist

Lo Celso has been Betis’ brightest player so far this season, with the former Tottenham man registering three goal contributions across his six appearances so far (one goal, two assists).

Lo Celso registered 11 goal contributions across his 25 appearances in La Liga last season, which is a solid return considering it was his first season with the club.

His underlying numbers from the opening six games of the season are really promising, he’s created 15 chances (2.79 per 90) and had nine shots (1.67 per 90) across these games.

Lo Celso registered an assist against Real Sociedad last time out as Betis registered a 3-1 win at home.

Elliot Anderson to be Shown a Card

Lo Celso’s strong start to the season includes a proficiency when it comes to winning fouls. He was fouled a notable six times in Betis’ 3-1 win over Real Sociedad last time out, with Betis drawing 20 fouls in total from the away side.

Betis have drawn at least 13 fouls from their opponents in each of their six La Liga matches this season, with four of these games seeing their opponents commit 16 or more fouls. Forest could get through quite a bit of work off the ball here, with Anderson standing out as a player that could be tempted into a caution.

Anderson is yet to receive a card in the Premier League this season, but the midfielder was shown 10 yellow cards across his 33 appearances in the division last term. His main opponent here will be Lo Celso, who has been Betis’ most impressive player this season and has won 20 fouls across his six appearances so far this term (3.72 per 90).

Real Betis to Win

It’s hard to see when the wins start coming for Forest at the moment. They are amongst the favourites to win this competition, but I can’t see any real identity within the Forest side yet under Postecoglou.

Betis have only lost one of their six La Liga matches so far this season and come into this game on the back of a 3-1 home win over Real Sociedad, a real contrast to the situation with which Forest enter this game, with Postecoglou still looking for his first win having faced defeat against Arsenal and Swansea - as well as drawing against Burnley.

Betis also have a lot more recent experience in Europe when compared to the majority of the Forest squad. Betis reached the final of the Conference League last season, so they are familiar with the demands of European football.

📈 Real Betis v Nottingham Forest Form & Tactics

Betis have made a solid start to the season with just one defeat from their opening six games in La Liga. They come into this game on the back of a 3-1 win over Real Sociedad at home.

Betis have recent European experience, which can aid them in the Europa League this season. Manuel Pellegrini led the side to the Conference League final last campaign, only stopped by Chelsea.

Betis tend to score quite freely at home; they netted 32 goals across their 19 home games last season (1.68 per game), so we can expect them to breach a Forest backline still adapting to new instructions.

Forest have not quite got going under Ange Postecoglou yet, with two defeats and a draw from his opening three matches against Arsenal, Swansea and Burnley. This change was always going to take some time. Postecoglou plays in a completely different style to his predecessor, which is why the mid-season switch is a tad confusing for Forest.

That being said, Forest do have a deep squad and could end up reaching the latter stages of the Europa League with a coach who has won the competition before, as recently as last season. Forest have quite a few players that will be playing in their first away game in Europe, so this could be another learning curve for the Forest squad as they adapt to life without Nuno Espírito Santo.
