📈 Athletic Bilbao v Real Madrid Form & Stats

Following their draw against Girona at the weekend, Real Madrid have surrendered top spot in the Spanish top flight, as Los Blancos find themselves in a tough period. They have won just one of their last five matches across all competitions, with their only win coming against Greek minnows Olympiacos in the Champions League.

For the first time since August, Athletic Club finally managed to secure a victory on their travels, breaking an eight game unbeaten run across all competitions. Although that was against Levante, who currently sit in the relegation zone, it was still a big result for Los Leones who will look to build some momentum.

Having lost six of their 14 La Liga matches this season, it has been a turbulent campaign for Athletic Club so far, who currently sit outside of the European spots. The Spanish side have also struggled in the Champions League, with just one win from five putting them 27th in the standings. It has been a real challenge for Los Leones to compete on multiple fronts this season, especially with such a sizable injury list.

📔 Athletic Bilbao v Real Madrid Formation & Team News

Oihan Sancet’s straight red card against Barcelona came at a poor time for Athletic Club, who have Maroan Sannadi and Inaki Williams currently in the treatment room. Gorka Guruzeta is expected to lead the line for Los Leones against Real Madrid.

As a boost, Nico Williams has been fit enough to start the last three league games for Athletic Club, during which he has scored twice. However, he didn’t complete the full 90 in any of those matches, and was benched for the Champions League game last week, so clearly still seems to be building up his fitness since returning from injury.

Xabi Alonso was boosted by the return of Eder Militao at the weekend, who partnered Antonio Rudiger at the back, but Dean Huijsen is expected to miss this midweek clash with a recurring calf problem. Real Madrid are expected to opt for a similar 11 to that which played midweek, with Trent Alexander-Arnold starting at right back in the absence of Dani Carvajal.
