Nottm Forest are well in the running for knockout football in the Europa League, given their four points from three matches so far.

They are favourites to add to their tally when going to the Austrian champions Sturm Graz on Thursday night, but Graz have won both of their home European matches so far this season and are in need of points themselves to progress in the competition.

Our Football Match Stats, including Sturm Graz v Nottingham Forest, provide further insight.

Over 4.5 Nottingham Forest Corners

This bet is mainly based on the stats that Sturm Graz have gathered over their European campaign so far this season.

Sean Dyche is obviously a manager who prepares for set pieces very well, and realises, as everybody seems to be waking up to, that set pieces are an important attacking tool, so his teams tend to be set up to win a good number of corners.

Sturm Graz have conceded a consistently high number of corners in their UEFA matches this season. They are averaging 6.6 corners against in their five UEFA matches so far this season, only one of those, Midtjylland away, did this bet selection fail to come in as the Danes won only four corners.

Celtic won nine last time, Rangers won seven, and Bodo/Glimt won eight and five in their Champions League qualifier.

Sturm Graz to have 3+ Shots on Target

This bet is one that is based on Sturm Graz and their record of consistently beating this line in their home matches, including their matches at home in UEFA competition.

Taking into account Sturm Graz's last 20 home matches, they have failed to hit this line in only two of those matches, both in the Austrian Bundesliga, once to Austria Vienna this season and to Rapid Vienna last season. Their average shots on target in a home match in this period is 5.5.

Taking only European competition home matches going back to 2021, there have been four occasions out of 21 in which Sturm Graz have failed to hit at least three shots on target.

Forest have conceded an average of 5.14 shots on target this season across all competitions. Every match has seen them concede at least four shots on target, including four shots on target at Betis in their last Europa League away match.

Callum Hudson-Odoi to have 2+ Shots

The Forest winger has been a staple of Forest's Europa League run so far. He has started every tie so far, playing the full 90 minutes in the last two matches.

He has taken three shots in each of the three matches, which creates an average of 3.32 shots per 90 in the Europa League.

Expanding this to the season as a whole, Hudson-Odoi is taking 2.1 shots per 90, and he hit four in the last league match against Manchester United.

Sturm Graz have conceded a lot of shots in UEFA competition this season so far. They are averaging 14 shots against them across their five matches, including 20 against Celtic and 16 versus Rangers.

Jon Gorenc Stankovic to Commit 2+ Fouls

There are a couple of edges to this angle that I like.

Firstly, the former Huddersfield man has been playing a combative midfield role for Graz, obviously a great angle for fouls to begin with. His record this season looks good for this line, he is averaging 1.41 fouls per 90 this season, which rises to 1.6 when only taking into account Graz's European matches.

He has hit this line in three of those five UEFA matches, including the last two Europa League games.

The other side to this bet is that Elliot Anderson is on the other side of the midfield. He has been fouled a crazy amount of times in the Europa League so far, 16 times in three matches, an average of 5.33. Stankovic is likely to be operating in the same area of the field as Anderson, and given the influence that Anderson has on this Forest team, and his ball-carrying ability as well, Graz will need to disrupt him.

📈 Sturm Graz v Nottingham Forest Form & Tactics

Sturm Graz have won the last two titles in Austria, but it is looking very tight at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga at this stage. Indeed, Graz now find themselves fourth in the table after back-to-back league defeats, and they only managed to scrape through in the Austrian Cup on penalties against second-tier Admira Wacker.

In the Europa League, they have one win and two defeats from their opening three matches. Their win came at home against Rangers, but they lost to Midtjylland and Celtic. This came off the back of a fairly humiliating Champions League qualification exit to Bodø/Glimt, who thrashed them 0-5 in Norway to effectively seal the tie after one leg.

Nottingham Forest may well be on their third manager of the season, but Sean Dyche is coach who can be relied upon to steady the ship. He delivered a very competent 2-0 victory over Porto in his first match, and then, although they lost to a very good Bournemouth team, their performance against an in-form Manchester United in gaining a 2-2 draw was also positive.

Forest remain in the Premier League relegation zone, though, having not won since opening day, so there is definitely work to be done. In Europe, they have won one, drawn one, and lost one, but they have scored twice in each fixture so far.

📔 Sturm Graz v Nottingham Forest Formation & Team News

Sturm Graz tend to operate in a 4-diamond-2 shape, one rarely seen in the English domestic game. It does allow a lot of flexibility in midfield, and also allows them to play a partnership up front, but potentially it does allow a lot of room down the flanks and a lot of work rate on the full-backs.

Tochi Chukwuani is out because of a red card sustained in the match at Celtic Park. Other than that, there are no new injury concerns for Jürgen Säumel.

Sean Dyche has immediately implemented a 4-2-3-1 shape with genuine wingers providing width, Morgan Gibbs-White given freedom, and then a really hard-working and solid six in behind them.

Chris Wood is not expected to be back for this match, so Taiwo Awoniyi is expected to continue to lead the line. Douglas Luiz tweaked his hamstring to join Dilane Bakwa, Ola Aina, and Oleksandr Zinchenko on the treatment table for Forest.
