Wednesday’s Europa Conference League Accumulator Tips
FC Auda v Cliftonville
Northern Irish side Cliftonville could face a long evening in Latvia when they face FC Auda.
The home side have struck form lately, winning each of their last six matches in all competitions. Prior to that, they had lost four straight, yet three of these came against the top three teams in the league.
Their response has been impressive, with 14 goals scored in this sequence, which includes a 2-0 home win over B38 Torshavn in the previous round.
While Auda are undefeated in their two European home matches, Cliftonville have an altogether longer and more disappointing history when travelling on the continent, losing 15 of their 20 previous away games.
On top of this, they have lost both home and away in four of their last five European ties. The exception was against Barry Town United, who they were held 0-0 away in 2019 before winning 4-0 at home.
Cliftonville, meanwhile, have made a poor start to this season. They have lost all four competitive matches they have played. They were dumped out of Champions League qualifying by Latvian side RFS 7-0 on aggregate, including a 3-0 loss in Latvia. RFS do sit well clear of Auda at the top of the Latvian league, yet they will surely have passed on intel, making Cliftonville’s life more difficult.
Austria Vienna v Ilves
Austria Vienna were caught on the hop in their first leg clash against Ilves as they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat, but back at home, they should be expected to overcome their opponents in a high-scoring match.
It was their first competitive match of the season, and they looked a little rusty in front of goal. Despite having 17 shots, only four hit the target. They dominated the game overall, posting nearly two-thirds of possession and winning the corner count 11-1. The gulf between the teams was not reflected in the outcome of the match.
The Austrians found their shooting boots at the weekend as they overcame third-tier Saalfelden 6-0 with a heavily rotated team.
Ilves, meanwhile, are a team that is typically involved in games with high scores. Among their results this season was a 6-4 home loss against Gnistan. Indeed, domestically, their games are averaging close to 3.5 goals per match.
While their away games are typically tighter, their last two road trips have produced a total of seven goals. Furthermore, both teams have scored in four of their last five on their travels.
Expect plenty of goalmouth action in this evenly-balanced tie.
