Celtic will be looking to make it two wins from two in the Scottish Premiership when they take on Hibernian at Easter Road on Sunday afternoon.
Brendan Rodgers’ side made the perfect start to the defence of their league title with a commanding 4-0 win over Kilmarnock last weekend. As such, the Hoops have started the new season as they ended the previous one – at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
In contrast, Hibernian suffered a bitterly disappointing start to their campaign as they lost 3-0 at St Mirren last Sunday.

Hibernian v Celtic Best Bets
Celtic are understandably short-priced favourites for their trip to Hibs but going for Celtic to win & over 2.5 goals boosts the odds up to an appealing price. Celtic ended last season in a rich vein of form and they looked to have picked up where they left off. The Hoops’ 4-0 win over Kilmarnock last Sunday means that each of their last 12 Scottish Premiership victories have featured a minimum of three match goals.
That 12-game stretch started when they earned a 2-1 win over Hibs at Easter Road back in February and there is plenty of scope for a repeat on Sunday. Hibs’ opening day defeat at St Mirren broke the over 2.5 goals barrier, as did each of their final seven league losses in the Scottish top-flight last term. Thus, backing Celtic to come out on top in an entertaining capital clash makes plenty of sense.
On a similar line of reasoning to the above, over 2.5 Celtic goals looks well worth considering at odds-against. Brendan Rodgers’ side are in fine form and playing with freedom and confidence right now, so things could get ugly for a Hibs side that were hit for three at St Mirren last time out. It’s also worth noting that this bet would have paid out in 10 of the Hoops’ last 13 Scottish Premiership assignments.

📊 Hibernian Form and Stats
Any early-season optimism at Easter Road quickly evaporated last weekend when Hibs were swept aside 3-0 by St Mirren. While manager David Gray steered the capital club through their Scottish League Cup group last month, they did stumble to a shock 1-0 defeat at Scottish League One outfit Kelty Hearts along the way, which would have set the alarm bells ringing among the Hibs support.
It would appear that Hibs have yet to shake off the malaise that saw them finish in a disappointing eighth place last season, going through three managerial changes in the process. Last week’s 3-0 setback at St Mirren means Hibs have managed to win just five of their last 22 Scottish Premiership matches. Across that 22-game sample, the Hibees have mustered just three clean sheets, conceding multiple goals on no fewer than 12 occasions. That defensive fragility does not bode well ahead of a visit from free-scoring Celtic on Sunday.
Despite being on the wrong end of a 3-0 reverse last week, Hibs won the shot count 15-9, the corner count 8-4 and they also enjoyed the lion’s share of possession (58%), but St Mirren were more clinical as they struck with three of their four shots on-target.
Having totted up 10 yellow cards in the Scottish Premiership last season, Hibs’ Joe Newell is likely to be on the referee’s rader on Sunday. While the Hibees captain didn’t pick up a booking against St Mirren last weekend, he was in the thick of the midfield battle, committing one foul and earning his side three free-kicks.
📊 Celtic Form and Stats
After ending last season with six straight victories in the Scottish Premiership, Celtic have come into the new campaign riding a real wave of momentum. That was clear to see on the opening weekend of the season when Celtic swatted aside Kilmarnock with room to spare.
Brendan Rodgers’ side scored exactly four goals in each of their final three pre-season fixtures in the USA and they extended that run to four matches by racking up another four strikes against Killie last Sunday. That means the champions have scored a minimum of two goals in each of their last 10 top-flight assignments, delivering three or more goals in a sizable eight of those contests.
Celtic dominated proceedings against Kilmarnock from the off last Sunday, evidenced by the fact that they enjoyed 82% possession and peppered their opponent’s goal with a staggering 32 shots, 13 of which were on-target efforts. The fact that four different players got on the scoresheet will also please Bhoys boss Rodgers.
While he didn’t manage to grab a goal last Sunday, the much sought-after Matt O’Riley proved yet again just how crucial he is for Rodgers’ side, setting up one of the four goals. No player provided more assists in the Scottish Premiership than the 23-year-old last season (13).
⚔️ Hibernian v Celtic Head-to-Head
Hibernian held Celtic to a 0-0 draw at Easter Road last October and they also pushed the champions all the way when they visited the capital in February of this year, with Adam Idah’s 92nd-minute penalty proving decisive in a 2-1 win for the Parkhead club.
Somewhat surprisingly, that was only Celtic’s first victory away at Hibs in five attempts across Brendan Rodgers’ two spells in charge with the club to date. The Hoops had a much more comfortable time of it when hosting the Hibees last season, cruising to a 4-1 win in Glasgow’s east end.
It’s also worth pointing out that the two sides will go up against each other again next weekend in the last 16 of the Scottish League Cup.
