Inter welcome Kairat with the Italian side currently boasting a perfect record in the Champions League having won all three of their matches without even conceding a goal.

Kairat picked up their first point of the league phase campaign against Pafos last time out, but should have taken more from the game with their opponents reduced to 10 men early on.

Lautaro Martinez to Score anytime

Martinez usually saves his best performances for the Champions League. He netted nine goals in the competition last season across his 10 starts as Inter reached the final, eventually losing out to PSG.

Martinez has started this campaign in similar fashion with three goals across his two appearances in the Champions League this term. This is as many as he’s scored in Serie A this season so it’s clear that Martinez prefers the environment of European competition compared to his league duties.

Martinez scored against Union St Gilloise in Inter’s most recent Champions League game and has also netted a brace in Inter’s convincing win over Slavia Prague. This could be a long evening for Kairat who have already conceded hauls of four and five goals against the likes of Real Madrid and Sporting.

Over 2.5 Inter Milan Goals

Kairat have been on the end of 4-1 and 5-0 batterings in the Champions League so far, as well as a 0-0 draw against Pafos. Sporting and Real Madrid both were completely dominant in their victories with Kairat conceding an xG of 7.35 across these two matches, with both sides registering an xG in excess of 3.0.

Inter have scored 3+ goals in two of their three Champions League matches so far. The only game in which they didn’t manage to score at least three goals was their 2-0 win over Ajax on the opening matchday of the league phase. Inter have already dispatched Slavia Prague by a 3-0 scoreline and also easily breezed past Union Saint Gilloise, putting four goals past the Belgium side without reply.

All roads lead to Inter Milan coming away convincing winners from this encounter. Kairat simply don’t have the quality to deal with the scoring power and technical ability of Inter, who have already won all three of their matches in the Champions League, netting nine goals in the process and conceding zero.

Kairat Almaty to be shown 2+ Cards

Only Barcelona (9) and Villarreal (8) have picked up more cards than Kairat Almaty in the Champions League this season (7). I expected Kairat to finish in and around the top clubs for cards in the league phase of the Champions League given that they lack the quality to compete with the majority of the sides in the competition, naturally leading to frustration.

Inter have drawn 14+ fouls from their opponents in all three of their Champions League matches this season. This has led to their opponents being shown one yellow card in each of their three matches. This foul won total should produce more cards here, with Kairat sure to be frustrated with the Inter dominance which is pretty much inevitable in this encounter.

Valeri Gromyko 1+ Shot

No Kairat Almaty player has had more shots than Gromyko in the Champions League this season. The 28 year old has had nine attempts across his three appearances in the Champions League, working out to a healthy 3.13 shots per 90.

He’s had at least one shot in each of his three Champions League appearances this term, including efforts against Real Madrid and Sporting which shows that he can be a threat even against the more elite sides in the competition. Gromyko had three shots in Kairat’s 5-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League so it may be worth exploring some higher lines for the winger here.

Kairat have registered shot totals of 22, 11 and nine in the Champions League so far this season so we can expect them to carry a small attacking threat in this game. The majority of their positive situations are likely to come on the counter attack, where someone like Gromyko can excel with his speed and promising shot volume in the Champions League this term.

📈 Inter Milan v Kairat Almaty Form & Tactics

Inter have been rock solid in the Champions League so far this season, winning all three of their games to nil and scoring nine goals in the process. None of these victories have been unexpected with Inter turning over Ajax, Union St Gilloise and Slavia Prague so far but they can take a massive step to qualifying in the top eight with a victory here, which they are widely expected to achieve.

Inter have only lost one of their last 11 matches across all competitions with Christian Chivu settling in well to his role as head coach. This was always going to be a difficult transition for Inter seeing as Simone Inzaghi had been at the club for so many years and built a really impressive side that won everything aside from the Champions League.

Chivu has managed to retain core players from that squad, as well as add in reinforcements. I thought Inter were too reliant on their front two of Martinez and Thuram last year and they now have more attacking cover with the likes of Esposito and Bonny producing some positive cameos so far.

Kairat have managed to earn their first point of the league phase which they got against Pafos in a 0-0 draw. Kairat should have done better in the game with 22 shots and an extra man for nearly the entire match. It’s likely that this is the only point that Kairat manage to pick up in the league phase with their remaining fixtures looking challenging on paper.

📔Inter Milan v Kairat Almaty Formation & Team News

Inter have stuck with the 3-4-3 shape that was so successful for them under Inzaghi and led them to the Champions League final. Inter won every domestic trophy on offer in Italy with this shape and they’re still probably the most complete side competing in Europe from Serie A.

The wingbacks are just as important as they were under Inzaghi, with Inter also having extra attacking reinforcements which is something that they were desperately crying out for last term.

That being said, Inter probably won’t be at their free flowing best as they are missing Mkhitarayan who is injured for this game. He’s long been a crucial cog in the middle of the park for Inter, but again their recruitment in the window means someone like Sucic can fill in for him.

Kairat will line up in a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-4-2 which are the systems they’ve used in the Champions League so far. 4-4-2 with a low block is likely to be their formula to try and take something from this game with Kairat severely lacking in quality when compared to the Italian side all over the park.
