Real Madrid v Real Betis
📅
Kick Off: Sunday 1st September at 20:30
🏆
Competition: La Liga
Real Betis will make the journey from Seville to Madrid on Sunday night, to face a team they have not beaten since March 2020.
Last season was a historic campaign for Carlo Ancelotti, as he secured his fourth Champions League title, and the 15th for the cabinet of Real Madrid.
With the addition of Kylian Mbappe to an already star-studded attack, Los Blancos look a serious threat on the attacking front. That also presents a headache for Ancelotti, in regards to fitting them all into a functional squad.

➡️ Kylian Mbappe to score anytime @ 1.73 with Paddy Power
Real Betis face a tough task ahead at the Bernabeu. The summer transfer window saw them lose some of their key players, notably Willian Jose and Ayoze Perez, which has weakened their squad overall. Given that Real Madrid were the only La Liga side to remain unbeaten at home last season, Real Madrid (-1.5) at 1.73 seems a sensible bet.
Real Madrid were unbeaten at the Bernabeu last season, with 16 wins from 19 games and in that time, they scored 48 goals whilst conceding just nine at home last season in the league.
While Mbappe is yet to open his goal scoring account in the league, although he did make an immediate impact by scoring in his debut game against Atalanta in the Super Cup. Playing in a central role, Mbappe has been a real threat in front of goal so far. Against Mallorca, he took four shots with two on target, before firing off another four shots against Valladolid, with three testing the goalkeeper. Mbappe’s involvement in forward areas suggests that his first league goal is on the horizon.

📊 Real Madrid Form and Stats
Real Madrid were totally dominant last season, cruising to a record 36th La Liga title by a ten-point margin. However, despite completing the signing of Kylian Mbappe over the summer, performances have not been convincing.
Los Blancos started with a 1-1 draw at Mallorca, in which all of Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo started. Despite such high-calibre names, they failed to generate any meaningful chances, as they found themselves clustered on the left-wing. That game finished 1-1. Madrid looked much more comfortable in their proceeding game against newly-promoted Real Valladolid, but struggles returned against Las Palmas. They trailed within five minutes, and again struggled to fashion any clear-cut opportunities. Ancelotti’s men were fortunate to be awarded a penalty late on, which Vinicius Jr converted to help his team salvage another draw.
📊 Real Betis Form and Stats
Betis kicked off the season with a 1-1 draw against Girona, with centre back Marc Bartra scoring their first goal of the campaign from a corner just six minutes in. They looked promising in transition and were able to cause Girona problems on the break, but were wasteful. They eventually conceded towards the end of the game. Betis were again unfortunate to be denied three points in their next game, as they played out a goalless stalemate with Alaves. Betis created 1.49 xGF from 15 shots, conceding just 5 shots in return amounting to 0.21 xGA.
Pelligrini’s men have also played in the Europa Conference League playoff rounds against Ukrainian side Kryvbad. They managed a 2-0 win away in Slovakia, before a comfortable victory on home turf to ensure their progression in Europe. Betis found themselves 3-0 up before half-time in that game, so could afford some rest to key players before they travel to the Bernabeu, which is important given that there is just a three day turnaround.
⚔️ Real Madrid v Real Betis Head-to-Head
Real Madrid were left frustrated in their last meeting with Real Betis, as the game finished goalless. However, it is worth noting that this was the last game of the previous campaign, by which Real Madrid had already secured the title. With nothing to gain for either team, with an eye on the upcoming Euro 2024, it’s no surprise that the game featured only 1.73 xG in total.
Real Betis also managed to take a point away from this fixture at the Benito Villamarin Stadium last season. Jude Bellingham opened the scoring shortly after the second half resumed, before Aitor Ruibal equalised just over ten minutes later. Andriy Lunin put in a star performance for Real Madrid, with five saves to frustrate the home crowd. Real Betis accrued 14 shots in that game, totaling 1.39 xG. In the end, Real Madrid were fortunate to come away with a point, given that they created just 1.03 xG themselves.
