Tottenham’s defeat at the weekend made it back-to-back losses for Spurs, who have won just two of their last eight matches in all competitions. Spurs will hope to rediscover some of their early-season form under Thomas Frank, and they have a good opportunity to do so against Danish capital side Copenhagen, who are yet to taste victory in the Champions League this season.

Copenhagen to have 3+ Shots on Target

Thomas Frank’s men haven’t been anywhere near as strong as the league tables suggest, and their performance against Chelsea at the weekend exposed some of the underlying issues that have been masked in recent weeks. Their London rivals were able to fashion chances at will, and the 1-0 scoreline really didn’t do the quality gap between the two sides justice.

The Blues racked up 15 shots and six big chances, forcing a massive eight saves from Guglielmo Vicario. Copenhagen would have watched that horrendous defensive showing, and that will give them confidence for this clash on Tuesday night.

The Danish side have every reason to be front-footed in their approach here, as they currently sit well outside of the qualification spots - realistically, three points will have to be the aim to keep their knockout hopes alive. They have managed to hit this mark in all three Champions League outings so far, including seven shots on target against Leverkusen.

Youssoufa Moukoko to Commit 1+ Fouls

Youssoufa Moukoko is another Copenhagen player who is a target for fouls here - despite his limited minutes so far, he is averaging 1.46 fouls per 90. The 20-year-old has started all three Champions League games, and has got stuck into duels on the European stage. He has landed this selection in all three Champions League group stage matches, including one foul against his former club Dortmund in the previous round.

Prior to that, he registered one foul in a 45-minute appearance against Qarabag and two infringements against Bayer Leverkusen. Even in the qualifying rounds, Moukoko racked up six fouls in five appearances, despite only coming off the bench in all of those - he is averaging an eye-catching 2.65 fouls per 90 in the Champions League across eight appearances overall, which is the highest in the Copenhagen squad.

Richarlison to Commit 1+ Fouls

After scoring a brace in the opening game of the season for Spurs, Richarlison hasn’t been able to replicate that kind of performance in any game since, so has fallen out of favour under Thomas Frank. It has been a frustrating period for the Brazilian, as he has only featured from the bench in each of the last four Premier League games. However, he has still had a role to play in midweek fixtures, and Richarlison has led the line for Spurs in all three Champions League outings so far.

In that time, he has committed exactly one foul in all of those games, and has been shown two bookings. In fact, Richarlison is averaging 1.41 fouls per 90 this season in all competitions, and has registered a foul in eight out of 10 starts, with a tendency to be overly-aggressive in his duels.

Mohamed Elyounoussi to Commit 1+ Fouls

With regular holding midfielder Thomas Delaney ruled out through injury, Copenhagen have been slightly light of options in the middle of the park, and Mohamed Elyounoussi was tested out alongside Lukas Lerager at the weekend.

The former Southampton man put in a standout performance, playing the full 90 and registering an assist for the decisive goal to help his side secure the three points. After such a positive display, he will be in serious contention to start in midfield again in midweek. In addition to his attacking contributions, Elyounoussi won nine of his 15 duels, while making three fouls and picking up a booking.

He is an incredibly energetic player, and playing in midfield as opposed to upfront is ideal for backing him to commit a foul. Even still, the 31-year-old is averaging 1.27 fouls per 90 this season for Copenhagen, and he has been shown three bookings in his last eight matches alone.

Copenhagen (+2) Handicap

This leg lands if Copenhagen win, draw or lose by a single goal.

Tottenham come in as heavy favourites to secure victory on home turf midweek, but based on their performance at the weekend, Copenhagen should really fancy their chances of competing here, or maybe even causing a massive upset.

Spurs are unbeaten in Europe so far, but have drawn their last two matches after beating Villarreal on matchday one. Bodo/Glimt, another Scandinavian side, gave the Premier League heavyweights a real run for their money a few weeks ago and were unfortunate to only come away with a point after they comfortably won the xG battle.

Tottenham also had luck on their side against Monaco, as the hosts racked up 23 shots and five big chances worth 2.45 xG to no avail, while Spurs mustered up just 0.88 xG in return. It has been a similar story in the Premier League; Spurs rank 14th for total xG created, but have scored the 4th-most goals in the division.

Micky van de Ven to have 1+ Shots on Target

Tottenham haven’t quite been free-flowing in attack this season, failing to score in either of their last two games, but Thomas Frank is an adept set piece tactician, and has brought over some of his ideas from Brentford. The difference between Spurs under Thomas Frank and Ange Postecoglou from dead ball scenarios is night and day - Micky van de Ven has been the main beneficiary of such changes.

The Dutchman already has five goals to his name in all competitions this season, including a brace against Everton just a couple of weeks ago. He is invited into the opposition box at every opportunity, and does tend to pop up in the right place at the right time, whether it be on the end of a pinpoint Pedro Porro cross, or a Kevin Danso long throw.

In the Premier League, he has taken a total of seven shots - four of those have come from within the six-yard box, and he's scored three of them.

Pedro Porro to be Shown a Card

Pedro Porro has been on his best behaviour in recent weeks, and has not picked up a card since he faced Bodo/Glimt on matchday two of the Champions League, but the Spaniard can have a tendency to be quite rash in his challenges and commit cynical fouls.

He will be up against Elias Achouri on Tuesday night, which is a matchup to keep an eye on. Achouri is a very technical player who likes having the ball at his feet - he is averaging 1.74 fouls drawn per 90 this season, which is one of the highest in the Copenhagen squad.

In Copenhagen’s last European away day, Qarabag picked up three yellow cards, and right back Matheus Silva accounted for one of those. The full back was heavily involved defensively, contesting a total of 14 duels while also committing two fouls.

📈 Tottenham v Copenhagen Form & Tactics

Copenhagen manager Jacob Neestrup has normally set his side up in a compact 4-4-2 formation, deploying a strike partnership. Viktor Claesson has featured more regularly for the Danish side in recent weeks, and is likely to retain his spot after scoring in his most recent game. Moukoko was also on the scoresheet, the 20-year-old has four goals in his last two games alone.

For Tottenham, Lucas Bergvall is the only fresh injury doubt, as he was replaced after just seven minutes at the weekend as a concussion substitute. He joins long-term absentees Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Radu Dragusin in the treatment room.

With Spurs under a bit of pressure following two poor results, Thomas Frank will likely select his strongest XI here, so Mohammed Kudus should be in line to start on the right, with Xavi Simons operating centrally.

Regular duo Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha should partner in midfield, while Cristian Romero will also be hoping to make his first start in over a month.

📔 Tottenham v Copenhagen Formation & Team News

Despite a late scare from the visitors, Copenhagen were able to hold on to secure three points at the weekend against Fredericia, to consolidate their position in 4th. It has been a stuttering title defence so far for the 16-time Danish champions, as they have won just three of their last nine league games.

The Parken Stadium was such a fortress last season, and Copenhagen’s record of 10 wins, five draws and one loss was pivotal to their domestic success, but they have faltered on home turf this campaign. However, the Danish side have been strong on their travels this term, winning five of their seven games in all competitions.

Copenhagen have struggled in Europe so far, and have taken just a single point from their opening three games. They rank as one of the leakiest defensive units, having already shipped a total of eight goals, but that has come from just 4.7 xGA, so Copenhagen have been unfortunate in that sense.

They were dealt a 4-2 defeat at the Parken Stadium in their last European match, as Dortmund were efficient with their chances. The visitors scored four goals from just nine shots in total, which amounted to 1.64 xG.
