📈 Wolves v Tottenham Form & Stats

Wolves will be in the Championship next season, but can still have a significant say in who joins them there as they welcome a relegation-threatened Tottenham side to Molineux. Wolves have lost their last two games against Tottenham’s relegation rivals in Leeds and West Ham, failing to score in either of these games and conceding seven goals as they limp towards the end of the campaign.

Wolves do have a surprisingly good record against Tottenham across recent seasons, avoiding defeat in each of the last six head to head meetings between the sides. This will be the main aspect that Rob Edwards is likely to lean on here, given that Wolves have only managed to win three of their 16 matches at home this season - and have conceded more goals than any other Premier League side across these games (31).

There is no understating how important this game is for Tottenham. It’s a real six-pointer, and if they don’t win here - I can see them collapsing entirely with the strong strides forward that the likes of Forest, West Ham and Leeds have made in recent weeks. It’s worth noting that Tottenham are the only side in the relegation battle without players or a manager that has experience of battling at the bottom of the league, this is significant and something we could look back on if they do face the drop.

I question whether the Tottenham players have an appetite for this relegation battle, they’re the focus of every weekend at the moment and Wolves will not lay down easily to allow them to further their chances of staying up. Roberto De Zerbi’s side dropped points again last time out as they conceded in the 95th minute against Brighton, marking the 15th Premier League game that Tottenham have failed to win this calendar year.

📔 Wolves v Tottenham Formation & Team News

Wolves will line up in a 3-4-3 shape, no structure has been particularly effective for the Wanderers this season - but the success they have had has come with this shape under Rob Edwards. There is talent in this Wolves side, the midfield duo of Andre and Joao Gomes are set to earn moves away from the club as they are too talented for the Championship in my view, and there is also Mateus Mane who has been a small shining light in what has been a grim season for Wolves.

Wolves are expected to be without Jose Sa and Sam Johnstone for this clash, meaning that we should see third choice keeper Bentley in goal for this clash - which is a small boost to Tottenham’s chances here. Mosquera is also suspended, while Matt Doherty is also expected to be unavailable for this game. Rob Edwards has claimed that his players will still fight here, but that promise has been made to Wolves fans all season and has rarely been met.

Tottenham looked a lot better against Brighton last time out, even if they failed to get a result in the end. Roberto De Zerbi should set the side up in a 4-3-3, and I think the player he has to platform more than anyone else if Spurs are to stay up is Xavi Simons. He’s received a lot of criticism this season, but has registered four goal contributions in his last four appearances across all competitions, including a goal and an assist against Brighton last time out.
