The 2022 World Cup in Qatar was moved to the winter months in order to avoid temperatures exceeding 45°C, with air-conditioned stadiums delivering comfortable conditions for the players. Russia 2018 was more straightforward, with mild European summer temperatures between 18°C and 26°C which again wasn’t much different to what players are accustomed to.
The upcoming 2026 World Cup in North America promises to be more challenging, given that it takes place during the summer across Canada, USA and Mexico. Conditions will vary considerably throughout the continent, with massive changes in temperature and humidity based on where teams contest their fixture. Players will face significantly greater challenges, and the conditions could have a big impact on results.
🏟️ MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, USA
With a capacity of approximately 82,500, the MetLife Stadium is one of the largest venues at the World Cup this summer. Average June temperatures in New Jersey are around 27°C and humidity averages at 64%. The MetLife Stadium is the home of NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets, and it will host the World Cup Final on July 19.

🏟️ AT&T Stadium, Texas, USA
Home to the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, the AT&T Stadium is the largest venue at the tournament with a capacity of approximately 94,000. It is fully enclosed with air conditioning, meaning the outside conditions won’t have much of an impact here.
