📈 Celtic v Falkirk Form & Tactics
Celtic ensured that they kept pace with both Hearts and Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership by claiming a narrow 1-0 win over St Mirren in their last league outing. Martin O’Neill’s men have since come up against the same opposition in the Scottish Cup semi-finals, where they were held to a 2-2 draw inside 90 minutes before running riot in extra time to claim a 6-2 victory. Across his two spells in interim charge this season, O'Neill has guided his side to eight victories from nine in the Scottish Premiership at Celtic Park, including a pair of wins over Falkirk.
Falkirk went close to shaking up the Scottish Premiership title race when they raced into a two-goal lead against Rangers in their last outing. However, their advantage was halved out just before half-time, and Rangers ultimately produced a dominant response to run out 6-3 winners. John McGlynn’s side were unable to bounce back when playing out a 0-0 draw with arch-rivals Dunfermline in a Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden last Saturday, before going on to lose the penalty shootout 4-2.
Martin O’Neill has largely favoured a 4-2-3-1 system during both of his spells in charge of Celtic this season. Alistair Johnston and Callum Osmond could return from injury this weekend, but Colby Donovan, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota, Julian Araujo, and Kasper Schmeichel are expected to remain out. Liam Scales is back in contention after serving his Scottish Cup suspension last weekend.
Falkirk boss John McGlynn rarely strays from his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation. Coll Donaldson was a notable absentee against Dunfermline at Hampden last weekend, leaving the Bairns skipper’s involvement at Celtic Park on Saturday in doubt. Louie Marsh will also miss out for the visitors due to injury.
