Every England football fan will tell you that there needs to be a big improvement in performance from the Three Lions.

Finishing first in Group C would present England with a third-placed finisher as their round of 16 opponent, and then a runner-up in the quarter-finals, meaning that the semi-finals would be the first time that they would encounter another group winner, potentially France.
Slovenia need a result to qualify as well, of course, they sit on only two points heading into this match after conceding a last-minute equaliser to Serbia last time out. A draw could be enough to see them through on three points and an even goal difference, but a win would put them above England and, potentially, through as group winners.
England v Slovenia Best Bets
➡️ Adam Cerin to commit 2+ fouls @ 1.53 on Paddy Power
➡️ Adam Cerin to commit 2+ fouls, Jude Bellingham to be fouled 1+ times and Harry Kane to have 2+ shots @ 1.99 on Paddy Power
From a Slovenian perspective, both teams to score looks like an interesting option. 1-1 has been the correct score in their last three internationals, and both teams have scored in five of their last six matches.
However, England are solid defensively. They don’t concede many good chances, only conceding 0.18 xG to Serbia and 0.82 xG to Denmark in the last match, so it is difficult to tip that as the best bet in the match.
England are a short price for the victory, especially when considering how they are playing and the lack of goalscoring form in recent matches. The most likely result here is a narrow England win, 1-0 is priced at 5.5 which looks a decent bet.
However, for best bet material it is best to look elsewhere. There is an even money shot made from the bet builder market which is highly recommended. Adam Cerin has been something of a foul machine for Slovenia recently, conceding five and four in the tournament so far, which, when Jude Bellingham will be around the midfield makes him something of a target for fouls as well. Combining the above best bets, Cerin 2+ fouls, Bellingham to be fouled and Harry Kane to have two or more shots, comes to 1.99 with Paddy Power, which looks an excellent price.

📊 England Form and Stats
There is little by way of positivity to report for England, despite the fact that Southgate’s team is unbeaten in the European Championship finals.
A 1-0 opening victory over Serbia and a 1-1 draw against Denmark aren’t bad results on the face of them, it is the way in which the wins were achieved and the context of England being tournament favourites that change the way in which these results are framed.
There is little by way of excitement in England’s matches of late. The Denmark match has made it three matches in a row that no team has scored more than once in an England match.
England sit 23rd of 24 teams for shots taken at the Euros, only Scotland sit below the Three Lions. England have managed only 16 shots in the first two matches, scoring twice, and the gap is actually quite a substantial four shots to the next lowest shot-takers, which is Georgia.
Something else that England are low on to the extremes is fouls committed. England are 24th in the competition for fouls committed, only giving away 13 in total, and, actually, they have suffered more fouls than any other team through the first two gameweeks of the group stages. This is an interesting side piece of information that could be useful when looking into the markets.
📊 Slovenia Form and Stats
Slovenia are probably unlucky to not be through to the round of 16 already. They conceded a 96th-minute equaliser from a corner against Serbia to match their 1-1 result against Denmark.
This does mean that a victory for Slovenia here will put them through, and potentially as group winners.
It has been a tale of the two full backs for Slovenia so far, with Erik Janza and then Zan Karnicik firing in excellent strikes to score their two goals. This method of goalscoring is surely unsustainable though and it would be an improvement to see their forwards, Andraz Sporar and Benjamin Sesko, find a way to find the net or have good chances to do so at the very least.
Slovenia have lost the xG battle in both of their matches so far, though a draw has been in the realms of a fair result on both occasions as both teams generated over 1 xG in both matches. They have actually scored in 14 consecutive internationals, so England will need to be aware of that.
⚔️ England v Slovenia Head-to-Head
England have beaten Slovenia in five of their six previous meetings, drawing the other in Ljubljana in a World Cup qualifier in 2016, a relatively early game in the Gareth Southgate era.
Indeed, despite England’s success over Slovenia the majority of the matches have been very close on the scoreline. Four of the five wins were by a single goal, two 1-0s, a 2-1 and a 3-2, and the other one was a 3-1.
However, the last meeting of the countries was back in 2017, so any form lines from history aren’t totally relevant to this forthcoming match in terms of players used. It is interesting to see how similar the matches that have been played have ended in similar fashions though, this could be an indication of what looks likely for this match as well.
