AIK will be looking to maximise their game in hand on the teams above them as they host 12th-placed IFK Göteborg on Monday night.

AIK v IFK Göteborg Best Bets
There is a lot to play for in this game with both sides looking to improve their form, however, both will be minimising risk in their play in attempts to be solid defensively. AIK’s defensive record is pretty dismal of late but they will be looking to hold tight at the back in a match that can halt their rut, especially coming up against a lacklustre IFK team.
For the visitors, every point is vital, therefore we can’t expect to see much of an adventurous approach on away soil. Instead, in the absence of a couple of starters such as Arbnor Mucolli and Andreas Pyndt, they will equally be attempting to hold tight defensively and force a low-scoring draw or narrow win by frustrating AIK. Both teams to score at 1.80 with Paddy Power could be a viable approach considering the leaky defences of both sides.

⚔️ AIK v IFK Göteborg Head-to-Head
These two teams have been tightly contested in the past, being in the middling part of Allsvenskan for the last few years, or even struggling towards the bottom recently. With both being largely risk-averse, we have only seen more than two goals on three occasions in the last ten matches. In addition, both teams rarely score when the two meet, this only happened twice in that same period. The home team tends to have the upper hand when these two teams face each other in closely fought encounters.
When they last met on 6th November 2023, however, we saw a high-scoring affair, ending in a 2-2 scoreline at Friends Arena. Simon Ohlsson, now back again from lengthy injury concerns, scored twice while playing on the right side of midfield. Gustav Svensson in central defence managed to concede a freak own goal, getting hit in the head by the goalkeeper’s clearance. Rui Modesto also got on the scoresheet and showed exactly why he is on the right wing this season, controlling his finish into the far corner.
📊 AIK Form and Stats
The season has been highly inconsistent for the classic Stockholm club. Despite some below-par early-season performances, they managed to avoid a loss for the first five matches of the Allsvenskan campaign, including an impressive 2-0 win over Djurgården. This placed them in the top three early on, but since then, the results have caught up, meaning four of the last five games have now been lost. There is a minor crisis in the club with manager Henning Berg under real pressure, conceding 18 goals in the last five, being unable to contain opponents in addition to being blunt offensively.
Ionnis Pittas has five goals to date and Rui Modesto is showing his credentials, while Bersant Celina has been able to paper over some cracks recently with strong performances and goals to boot. Other than that, there have been plenty of below-par showings, while the whole team’s approach leaves a lot to be desired. They are neither strong on the counter-attack nor compact defensively, being too open for central infiltrations. With 21 goals conceded in 10 games, some serious improvement is needed, and scoring 17 in the process can’t make up for it.
📊 IFK Göteborg Form and Stats
The classic Gothenburg club has been struggling for a good while, flirting with the relegation zone for most of the 2023 season. They are now again back in the bottom two after another tough start to this Allsvenskan campaign, only winning three games to date. In addition, there have been issues all around in terms of putting away their chances and being wasteful even in games when they’ve had the upper hand. A few points have been dropped this way, but all in all, the chance creation is simply not good enough to warrant a much better position in the league.
Mucolli, arguably the best player in the squad, has not found his role in the team this year, and in addition, there is no natural striker available. Laurs Skjellerup is able to be a presence when available but has barely started a game to date, meaning the central striker position is a real problem. One goal scored on average per game doesn’t scream productivity, and with 1.4 goals conceded per game, they need to be more productive to be able to compete in the division, or at least keep it tighter at the back.
