There are a lot of short prices on some very poor football sides this Scottish Cup weekend (Dumbarton, Ayr and Stirling Albion to name but a few) which doesn’t translate too well to a shorter odds acca like this one but does present other opportunities. What I would say is that those three aforementioned sides, and the other short-odds but out of form teams (Hamilton, East Fife etc), could and really should all win given the respective level of their opponents so just be wary if you’re intrigued by the likes of Tranent, Auchinleck Talbot and Sauchie.
Anyway, onto the four selections that have made it into my accumulator and without further ado let’s go for back-to-back winning Scottish accas 😉
Arbroath v Forfar
🏆
Scottish Cup
Last weekend’s accumulator landed us a very nice winner and to get this weekend’s up and running I’m backing the best part-time side in Scotland coming out on top in this Angus derby. It was only three seasons ago these two sides were in the same division, but both have gone their separate ways from League One and each other.
Arbroath are flying and despite being fifth in the Championship are just two points from the top of the table (and 15 from the bottom after 15 games – a not insignificant achievement when you consider some of the sides beneath Dick Campbell’s men). They’re fresh off beating top of the pile Killie at Rugby Park last weekend and do look like they could be here to stay in terms of a Championship promotion push.
Forfar too have ambitions of moving up and out of their current division, though they will almost certainly have to navigate the fourth tier through the Play-Offs if they’re to get closer to their Angus neighbours. They’re 10 points behind Kelty in League Two and though they’re on a good run themselves they do look like *just* a good a League Two side and should come unstuck against an Arbroath side that has quality coursing right through the XI and a strike force capable of banging goals in by the barrel load.

Prediction: Over 1.5 Goals
Kelty Hearts v Montrose
🏆
Scottish Cup
Kelty winning the league at the first time of asking was almost a given heading into the new League Two season but they’re showing exactly why so many were so confident in them and with a 10-point buffer on their nearest rivals, they can throw their considerable weight behind a cup run, not that Montrose are likely to roll over and let them into the 4th round without a fight.
Montrose are the second top scorers in what has been a goal-laden League One this season and though they do boast a relatively solid defence they won’t have faced many attacks as capable as their Fife opponents, despite a division’s difference. Montrose’s Graham Webster has only been outscored by two of the best strikers in the division in Rory McAllister and David Goodwillie this season and should fancy his chances of testing a Kelty back line that is capable of being tested by the better sides.
Kelty have conceded in five of their six cup games this season, with four of those half dozen games landing in our needed market. They’ve conceded seven of their nine league goals this season against sides alongside them in the top half of the division showing they’re not faultless against the better teams and Montrose are certainly better than anything they’ll face in League Two over the next six months before they inevitably win the league. This will be a good test to see where the Kelty project is at and I think the two dangerous front lines will come out on top on what could be a 90 minutes filled with goals.

Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals
Alloa v Bonnyrigg Rose
🏆
Scottish Cup
I’ve not really been convinced by Alloa this season and they quite rightly sit just as close to the relegation places as they do to making a proper push for the Play-Off spots in League One. This one does look primed for a genuine cupset with Bonnyrigg having previous of going deep into this tournament in the not-so-distant past as well as being slap bang in form.
Bonnyrigg Rose got past a then Championship side Dumbarton in 2016-17 of this stage of the Scottish Cup to set up a glamour tie with Hibs (I’ll not speak too much about that one in case there are any Bonnyrigg fans are reading this). I wouldn’t be too shocked at all if they were to replicate such an achievement this time around (beating a side far higher up the pyramid, not going on to lose 8-1 to Hibs again) and think the Lowland League leaders should be able to cause their League One opponents a world of problems. They also ran then Championship side Dundee very close last season, with a 94th minute equaliser and two goals in extra time needed for Dundee to get past Bonnyrigg earlier this year.
Alloa are hit and miss under Barry Ferguson and really are struggling to keep the goals out. 12 of their 15 League One games this season have seen both sides scoring, with that record improving to seven in eight on home soil. It’s also worth mentioning their (lack of) performance in the Challenge Cup this season. The third tier side were dumped out by Rangers’ colt side in the Round of 16, and with the Rangers youth side currently 10 points behind Bonnyrigg at the top of the Lowland League it’s a good gauge as to what Alloa are capable of, especially defensively.

Prediction: Both Teams to Score
Inverness v Morton
🏆
Scottish Cup
The final selection on today’s acca takes us to an all-Championship affair between two sides who I wasn’t too keen on heading into the new season, one of which has gone on to surprise, the other has very much lived up to my expectations of them.
Morton have been woeful this season and have won just twice on league duties meaning they’re very much in the wrong half of a division split in two. The Championship is forming into two factions and though Dunfermline look like they could just about claw back some of the difference between them and the five sides above them, there’s very little quality in any of the current bottom four sides in the division, of which Morton are one. There’s little quality and goals in this Morton squad and they aren’t likely to be capable of going up to the highlands and progressing through to the fourth round.
Inverness’ win at Queen of the South last weekend ended a mini-slump and a run of five games winless but this one today represents a great chance of keeping the wins coming. These two have already met in Inverness this season (and will meet for a third time this campaign in two weeks’ time) with Billy Dodds’ men running out comfortable 2-0 winners. I can see a similar outcome this time around with the gulf in ability between these two sides being exposed in the Scottish Cup, rather than in the Championship as it has been already this campaign.
