Maw Lam rates the best bet in the yearling sales event over 6f. The Acclamation filly has had a productive season, finishing an excellent third in the G2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, prior to a Listed placing at Deauville.

She officially is on top of the ratings after receiving her filly weight allowance and is likely to play a strong part in the finish. Her position towards the top of the market is encouraging, as favourites or joint-favourites have won this race in four of the previous five seasons.

Elnajmm was a comfortable winner for this column at Ascot over this distance last month.

That success made it 2-2 in handicaps, scoring with plenty to spare after meeting some trouble in-running. He’s been raised 8lb in the weights here but runs under a 6lb penalty, so is a couple of pounds well-in. There should be more to come from this lightly-raced type, who could develop into a group performer in time. Although this is likely to be a competitive race on paper, the son of Sea The Stars has upside that his more exposed rivals and the form of the William Haggas stable is a huge positive, too.

Content arrives as an improving three-year-old filly for Aidan O’Brien.

She kept on nicely behind Emily Upjohn in the G1 Pretty Polly Stakes at Curragh, before raising her level as a fast-finishing runner-up in the G1 Irish Oaks at the same venue. That was her first effort at 1m4f and can be marked up as she had to wait for a gap down the straight. As a daughter of Galileo, she is entitled to find further success at this journey, especially at a galloping track such at York, with its long straight likely to suit.

Karmology appeals from an each-way perspective, in a race where the short-priced favourite, Sea Just In Time, may be vulnerable raised in class after a pair of novice wins.

Karmology also needs to prove she has the requisite ability in this good field but is an improving handicapper, who certainly knows how to win. She is a tough and genuine performer – and as a dual course winner – has an advantage over her rivals. The step up in trip could prove a catalyst for further progress, too, as she is a daughter of Derby winner Golden Horn.

Queen of Mougins has been running better than her finishing positions may suggest this season.

Back-to-back third placings may not inspire maximum confidence against a host of last-time-out scorers, but the Ralph Beckett-trained filly showed ability at this course before an eyecatching third at Newmarket over 6f. She ran on strongly that day, suggesting this step up to 7f would be within her compass. It would be no surprise if she was to raise her game to play a hand at the business end of the contest.

Our first selection in our York Lucky 15 comes in the 15:00, where we have New Image, who has won four of his eight appearances this year.

A four-year-old gelding out of Frankel who is seeing rapid progression in his career, landing wins in multiple classes. Opening his 2024 season, New Image scored in two class four events at Southwell, where he won comfortably without really being tested. Making an appearance here at York in his second class three event, the gelding finished in an unlucky third place over a shorter 7f trip when staying on well towards the end and finishing less than a length behind the eventual winner. Showing promising signs over 7f, he was crying out for a further trip again when finishing second at Ascot last month when produced late to lose by a neck.

With a further trip looking well needed, New Image took a step up into class two racing over 1m earlier this month and landed his fourth career win when producing a career-best performance after being stuck in a pocket. Receiving a 6lb penalty for winning in the fashion he did, this shouldn’t cause too many issues in today’s affair, with further improvement looking likely.

Our next selection is Mistral Star, who is coming into this race on the back of a listed win at Newmarket last time out.

A consistent four-year-old filly out of Frankel, who has finished inside the top three in seven of her nine appearances and has picked up three wins in the process. Taking on her first group three race in June this year, she was unlucky not to go closer when she finished a very respectable third place after having a torrid time trying to find a route through. With two openings closing quickly and having to switch left and right, it could have been a different story given a clear run.

Bouncing back last month, the filly continued her great form and was too strong for her rivals in listed company, going on to win by 3 ½ lengths. Seeing great improvement of late, this step up in class is coming at the perfect time for Mistral Star, and she holds bold each-way claims in her first Group One.

Next up we have Divina Grace, who won her first listed event last time out at Newmarket.

A four-year-old filly who ended her 2024 campaign in fine style by winning two of her last three appearances and only being beaten by a small margin in her final start. Producing impressive runs in competitive handicaps, Divina Grace has been progressing into listed races this year and hasn’t disappointed. After finishing third on her listed debut in June, followed by a sub-par fifth place at Newmarket, she bounced back earlier this month to land her first listed race.

Showing great determination to see the job out to eventually stay on to win by 1 1⁄4 lengths, the filly is just getting started in these races, and there looks to be a lot more to come from her. All five of her career wins have come on good to firm ground, and she is producing the best form of her career of late. Holds solid each-way claims at her price in today’s affair.

Last but not least, our final runner for our York Lucky 15, we have Miss Information, who produced her best performances last month.

A three-year-old filly who had a consistent campaign last year when finishing inside the top three in four of her five appearances, including a win at Ascot. However, it is this year, particularly last month, where she has really taken her performances to the next level. Racing three times in July, Miss Information landed back-to-back wins at Chepstow and Epsom, winning two competitive handicaps with ease. Both wins came over today’s 7f trip, where she won by wide margin victories of 3 ¼ lengths at Chepstow and  3 ½ lengths at Epsom.

Leaving her late surge too late when sitting at the rear of the field at Goodwood last time out, she finished off powerfully in the closing stages, and if better placed in this race today, she will be battling in the business end of today’s affair.
