Sunderland v Leeds
📅
Kick Off: Friday 4th October at 20:00
🏆
Competition: Championship
📺
Watch Live: Sky Sports Main Event
One of the biggest matches in the Championship of this, or indeed any, season. The two biggest fanbases, in the biggest EFL stadium, with Sunderland top of the league, but Leeds ready to go into pole position with a win here.
⭐ Sunderland v Leeds Best Bets
This should be a tight match, and with Leeds having to travel to two tough venues within four days, it could be worth backing Sunderland draw no bet at 2.2, with the draw a big runner to return the stake if it happens.
Wilson Isidor has started the last two league games for Sunderland. His performances look to be a step up on what Eliezer Mayenda was doing for the Black Cats, and his numbers back up an improved likelihood of scoring, albeit from a small sample.
Isidor has had three shots and one shot on target in each match, and generated xG totals of 0.95 against Watford and 0.92 against Derby, Mayenda never produced a total higher than 0.61 in his six starts.
Wilson Isidor to score anytime is priced the same as Mayenda for a goal here, 3.75, and this looks too big given his start.
🔍 Sunderland v Leeds Players to Watch
🔴 Romaine Mundle
Mundle has been involved in 5.87 fouls per 90 since taking over from Jack Clarke as Sunderland’s left forward. These fouls are split around 3.5 per 90 fouls drawn and 2.4 per 90 in fouls committed, but he is heavily involved in the game, either with dribbling, pressing, or shooting, where he is averaging 2.64 shots per 90 as well.
⚪️ Largie Ramazani
The new Leeds winger has started really positively with seven shots in his three starts, two against Norwich, two against Coventry, and three against Cardiff. He has hit the target in every match and chipped in with two goals from 0.81 xG, he looks one to watch for shots and goals.

💻 Sunderland v Leeds Form and Tactics
Sunderland have won six of their eight Championship matches, including all four home matches. They have yet to concede a goal at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland have also won the xG battle in six of their eight matches, only failing to do so in away matches against Cardiff and Watford. Four Sunderland matches have gone over 2.5 goals, and only three have seen both teams score.
Leeds have been good this season, probably better than results suggest. They are third for xGF and first for xGA in the league, but have dropped points against teams that would be considered title rivals in Burnley, West Brom, and Norwich last time out.
Sunderland will use a 4-2-3-1 system, with the front four committed to a high press, using one of the central midfielders to back that up when required. They use their wide forwards on the opposite flanks, cutting inside to shoot.
Leeds will also set up 4-2-3-1 but usually use their full-backs to provide the width and have the rest of the team dominating the centre of the pitch. Largie Ramazani is used to provide ball-carrying skill, whilst Wilfried Gnonto and Brenden Aaronsen provide a goal threat from attacking midfield.
