⚔️ Gameweek 10 Review – 40 Points (39 Average)
King Mo to the rescue…as normal. We will glaze over the defence as again, true to current form, it’s not the main heartbeat of points for my team. Raya (3 pts) with an extra save point was the highlight, exciting right? All defensive players blanked especially Konsa (0 pts) who conceded 4 goals to wipe out even his playing points, which wasn’t on my agenda. Midfield was a slight improvement. Again many blanks, slightly unlucky as they were all heavily involved in attacking build-up, but just not the end product unfortunate this GW. Yet again, the king that is Mo Salah (18 pts) saved me from a disastrous GW, and currently, there is no doubt about it; he’s a more important player to own than Haaland. Cunha (6 pts) scored a goal and could have had another, hopefully, next week it’s two. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and if afforded the chance again, I would have played Evanilson (7 pts) over a defender, but we are constantly learning and improving, so we move. A good call to drop Robertson (0 pts) as he didn’t play a single minute so overall another average GW.
📋 Gameweek 10 Transfer Recap
Each week so you know @FplVeteran is doing the demanding work for you, we revisit key decisions from last week’s review. This GW we revisit my transfers Out. Areola being dropped and Foden blanking were risky but that’s how we operate, and they paid off. Johnson scored a goal but when 3 players gain 6 points for just playing a match, 10 points total is another spot-on selection, if I do say so myself.
Out | Points |
Areola | 0 |
Foden | 2 |
Johnson | 8 |
Total | 10 |
✅ The Best 3 Transfers IN for Gameweek 11
🇵🇹 Bruno Fernandes – Man United (£8.2m, 7.4%)
Differential last GW, now promoted to full Transfer In and for many reasons. In my last article (GW10) I stated if he gets any return at all, his appeal will be boosted, and significantly more managers will own him than the 5,000 that brought him in early. As it happens, this is true. Over 58,000 managers have seen the opportunity we have seen and taken the dive; this is due to several reasons. Firstly, Man Utd did indeed have a new manager bounce with a good showing against Chelsea, expect this to increase even more when Amorim takes charge from 11th November. In terms of fixtures, it doesn’t get much better than Leicester (Home), Ipswich (Away) and Everton (Home). With two newly promoted clubs and a struggling Everton side to test their new attacking formation and setup against, it doesn’t get much better than that. Lastly, look at Bruno Fernandes’s record; consistently he scores goals and points to an exceptionally prominent level, and it will again repeat this season. If you’re looking for a way to shoot up the rankings or a work league, at only 7.4% owned, this is it.
🇩🇿 Rayan Ait-Nouri – Wolves (£4.7m, 11%)
The defence is just not working, few clubs are keeping clean sheets including the Titans of Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City. The strategy currently is to play a maximum of three at the back that are value for money with a potentially huge upside. Step forward Rayan Ait-Nouri. Don’t let his FPL position of a defender fool you, he is a right winger and an attacking one at that. The heatmap supports just how high he has played in the 10 games so far and if you include 3 goals in that period his appeal is straightforward. But it’s his mega hauls I am more interested in. Wolves play the three newly promoted sides (2 of which are at home) and poor Everton and West Ham sides within the next 7 games. What does that mean to us, well in these games Wolves will tighten up at the back, and keep clean sheets which will be included in Ait-Nouri’s attacking returns, resulting in huge 10-15 point hauls. I love to seek opportunities in FPL and with the very real possibility he gains more than one of these size scores, he is high up on my transfer-in list.
🇰🇷 Son Heung-Min – Tottenham (£9.9m, 6.2%)
Hopping on and off players, this is what we said around GW3 would be an eventuality throughout the season and here it is. Son has rotated through the stages of must-own, must-sell, great differential and now transfer in. We have waxed lyrical already this season, discussing just how clinical a finisher and devastating a fit Son can be, but it’s the attacking side of Tottenham that leads me to him as a selection prior to GW11. Spurs have scored the most goals in the league so far, 22 in 10 matches (2.2 goals per game) and many of these games have been against fellow top 6 sides such as Man Utd, Newcastle and title contenders Arsenal. But their home form is even better, scoring 15 goals in 5 games (joint-top with Brentford) an average of three goals per game which can not be overlooked or cast aside. In their next three games they have 2 home games against Ipswich and Fulham sandwiched between an away fixture with Man City. It’s the attacking Ipswich I am mostly excited for Son to return in, but if we take a step back and re-analyse, any of these next three, including Man City (who as I write this have just conceded 4 to Sporting in the CL) are potentially great games for Son. My advice is to shoehorn him in and watch the returns mount up.
❌ The Best 3 Transfers OUT for Gameweek 11
🇧🇷 Ederson – Man City (£5.5m, 9.1%)
Premium goalkeepers this season are not even a thought. Gone are the days of choosing an expensive, safe pair of hands to stick with for the entire season through thick and thin. Often, this has been Ederson, Alisson, or Tim Howard, but alas no more. With so many teams conceding on a regular basis, the money saved can be spent where most points are collected, the front 8 attacking players. Ederson is the second most expensive player and has only kept a clean sheet from 2 of the opening 10 matches (v Chelsea and Southampton). With wanting to stack our midfield and forward line with the best players, every penny is critical, and this is an easy decision to remove him. Typically Man City concede often but always score more goals in order to win the games, but not in the numbers we are currently seeing. I said pre-season Arsenal would win the title, and I stick by that; Man City are light in every single department, especially defence and midfield. We all know the effect no Rodri alone has on the Cityzens and most of the backline especially Ederson which results in making this transfer a must-do, sooner rather than later. If you’re still undecided, Alisson (Liverpool) who has missed the last 3 games, still has more points than Ederson.
🏴 Eberechi Eze – Crystal Palace (£6.7m, 10%)
For those new to FPL, we have certain players we label as trolls. These are players that when you own – do nothing, and when you don’t own – do. Throw in injuries throughout the season without fail and one of the repeat offenders guilty of this is Eberechi Eze. A fantastic player to watch on and off the ball, at times, glides past players as if they were standing still but only for small periods each season. Include him within an extremely poor Crystal Palace side that without Michael Olise looks at times devoid of ideas and attacking output regardless of the opponent. I’ll keep this one simple, transfer out, move on and when he returns from injury, don’t even consider bringing him back until he does something of note in more than one game.
🇧🇷 /🇫🇷 Gabriel Magalhaes/ William Saliba – Arsenal (£6.2m, 22%/£6.0m, 22%)
Both defenders are included in one heading as typically managers this season currently only have one or the other, if you have both that’s quite a predicament to be in. Arsenal have suffered with key injuries and will continue to do so until Odegaard and Rice return. Paying a premium price for defenders as we have discussed is off the cards and currently, there are better options. By all means, keep one or consider benching for a few games and bring it back for the more optimal games to attack. But, in one of the busiest periods within the football calendar with games played every 3-4 days, Arsenal’s squad will be tested to the very limit, and though I see them winning many of these key games, I am not as confident in their defensive assets as once was in GW1. Very team dependent but ensure you consider each avenue.
Top Tip – Remember teams go through periods of good and bad form. Just because the last three have been underwhelming for a team often does not mean it will continue but in actuality, teams are more likely to pick up a run of results you can look to attack and exploit. MY example of this is Man Utd. Before the manager change, no one wanted to own any assets, now many are moving on many of their players including me. Ensure throughout the season you update your thinking of each team and their current form, don’t reset to factory settings of any top 6 side must be good because of past seasons, things change.
🦸 Gameweek 11 Captaincy Selections
🇪🇬 Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (£12.6m, 40%)
Either in the Champions League or FPL, He is unstoppable. Yes, he has a tough game against Aston Villa but the fact it is at Anfield quietens down my concerns somewhat. Liverpool always score at home and Salah is more often than not involved. It will take a brave person to stray away from handing him the armband and certainly won’t be me. He has single-handedly pulled my team through GWs, and I expect him to repeat it again.
Alternative Captain Options
So many options for this GW to go in alternative directions. Son and Solanke v Ipswich are fine choices are as Cunha v Southampton and Haaland v Brighton. But it’s the Man Utd magician, Bruno Fernandes that catches my eye. In truth though, if you wish to go against the grain this is the GW in which to do it, and many players could be the route to a huge rank rise. Listen to your inner voice and go with your gut.
👁️ FPL Veteran’s Vision and Verdict
I have moved to a cheap 3 at the back and for the near future. I have a stacked midfield and good fixtures for my front two. Due to Champions League midweek games, I will wait until Friday/Saturday to make any changes, regardless of the price drop. Depending on the Palmer injury, I will either look to strengthen my front two into a three or roll the transfer for huge fixture swings for many teams in GW11. Robertson will go at some point but unless my players are going straight into the starting 11, I play the bench passively. One omission already is Saka but tune into my X on Friday to find out which premium midfielder I have swapped him for.
