Ipswich v Man United
📅
Kick Off: Sunday 24th November at 16:30
🏆
Competition: Premier League
All eyes will be on Portman Road on Sunday to witness the start of the Ruben Amorim era at Manchester United, however, Ipswich won’t be content to play a supporting role in the Portuguese manager’s opening act in the Premier League.
Ipswich broke their duck for the campaign with a richly-deserved win at Tottenham before the international break and the Tractor Boys should provide tricky opposition for a United that will expect to have teething problems with a new tactical set-up.
⭐ Ipswich v Man United Best Bets
Manchester United have won all three of their matches against newly-promoted teams comfortably this season, running up an aggregate score of 11-2 in the process, however, equipped with a new formation in Ruben Amorim’s first game at the helm, sailing might not be quite as smooth at Portman Road.
Ipswich have been a competitive addition to the Premier League and eight of their first 11 fixtures of the new campaign have featured goals at both ends, while Town have already scored goals against Man City, Aston Villa and Tottenham since the summer.
Kieran McKenna’s troops could trouble a United defence reworked into a back three, though Ipswich hold the joint-second-worst defensive record (22 goals) and worst xGA tally (24.2) in the division and are unlikely to keep a clean sheet. Look to the BTTS markets for this one.

🔍 Ipswich v Man United Players to Watch
🔵 Liam Delap
Manchester United are unlikely to be comfortable at the back with a three-man defensive line and if the visitors show any signs of shakiness in their own third, in-form Ipswich striker Liam Delap should be on the spot to take advantage.
The 21-year-old, who has scored five goals in his last six Premier League appearances, has been averaging 1.97 shots and 1.05 shots on target per 90 minutes this term and the young forward is playing with enough confidence to test Andre Onana with at least another accurate effort here.
🔴 Alejandro Garnacho
Alejandro Garnacho has been a decent source of goals for Manchester United this season, though the 20-year-old’s decision-making has selfish leanings at the best of times and the winger has been criticised for shooting too often in scenarios where a pass to a team-mate was a better option.
Still, his shoot-on-sight policy makes him a superb option in the markets and Garnacho has been averaging a whopping 3.90 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League this term, while only skipper Bruno Fernandes (33) has had more attempts in total than the Argentinean international (31). Back Garnacho to let fly at least three times at Portman Road.
🔵 Kalvin Phillips
Kalvin Phillips returns from suspension this weekend following his dismissal against Leicester earlier this month and with a clean disciplinary slate to work with, the combative Man City loanee should be ready to throw himself into tackles against Man Utd on Sunday.
Phillips has been making 2.33 tackles and committing 2.67 fouls per 90 for the Tractor Boys since his temporary switch to Suffolk and the anchorman gave away ten free kicks combined in his last three Premier League starts alone. Look for the 28-year-old to stick his foot in illegally at least twice again on Sunday.

💻 Ipswich v Man United Form and Tactics
Newly-promoted Ipswich finally cracked the Premier League code on matchday 11 of the campaign when they battled their way to success at Tottenham (2-1) just before the November international break.
Town had just 34% possession and mustered just eight attempts in that watershed triumph, while Ipswich keeper Arijanet Muric was called into action to make five saves, and though the Tractor Boys did accumulate more in xGF than Spurs (1.60-1.50), Liam Delap’s tap-in accounted for 0.88 of that tally alone.
Ipswich were ruthless against Tottenham, though chance creation has been an issue for them since their promotion in general and Town rank bottom in the league for xGF (10.1), second bottom for shots on target per 90 (3.00) and last again for shot-creating actions (17.18 per 90).
Town have matched United for goals scored (12 each), though the Red Devils have underperformed against their xGF (17.4) and no other club in England’s top tier has missed more big chances than the misfiring Mancunians’ (26) so far this season.

Turning chances into goals is just one of the many problems Ruben Amorim is tasked with fixing. His Sporting side were expertly drilled in the 39-year-old’s trademark 3-4-2-1/3-4-3 formation and won 16 of his final 17 matches at the helm, however, it will take time to implement his ideas at United.
Amorim will, at least, have a more confident group to work with after interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy masterminded an uptick of three wins in four for United before his recent departure, leaving the club just four points off third position.
At Sporting, Amorim was a major advocate of aggressive pressing and quick, sharp passing, so expect to see ideas in that direction on Sunday. The wing back positions were also key to the success of his system and it will be interesting to see which United players Amorim selects for those specialist positions.
