🟡 Liverpool v Man City #OddsOnThat Tip
Liverpool extended their phenomenal run of form by overcoming Real Madrid by a 2-0 margin midweek at Anfield. Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring after 52 mins, before Kylian Mbappe wasted a huge chance to score from the spot. Mo Salah followed suit soon after, before Cody Gakpo sealed the game with a clinical header.
Despite failing to get on the scoresheet, Darwin Nunez popped up once again in promising positions, registering two shots on target worth a combined 0.43 xG. He was also denied at close range by Thibaut Courtois.
The Uruguayan has scored just three goals in all competitions this campaign, but Nunez is continuously popping up in dangerous positions, and has the tools to cause this Man City defence real problems.
Pep Guardiola has witnessed his side ship 14 goals in their last six games, remaining winless in what has been a disastrous run of form. Ruben Dias was on the bench against Feyenoord and did not make a substitute appearance, whether he is rushed back into the last line of defence is yet to be seen. Without him, City massively lack organisation and leadership which Liverpool, and Darwin Nunez in particular, will be aiming to take advantage of.
Anfield has proven to be a testing environment for the current Champions, as they have failed to win at this ground in each of their last three attempts. During the Jurgen Klopp era, Man City and Liverpool developed as rivals, with matchups packing that extra bit of intensity and fire. Bernardo Silva is a particular player who has seen a notable uptick in duels against Liverpool, as the Portuguese maestro has been carded in each of his last two head-to-head outings.
Last season, Bernardo Silva made 2 fouls at Anfield, and was subsequently shown a card. In the reverse fixture at the Etihad, he again registered 2 fouls, in addition to five tackles, picking up a booking as well.
Bernardo recently picked up a yellow card against Spurs, which was for a cynical foul late on as the game got away from the hosts. Given how strong Liverpool’s form has been, a similar result is not off the cards, and would be ideal for this bet. Silva can have a tendency to react in frustration, or even get booked for arguing, which referees have been more strict in cautioning this campaign.
