Empoli v Salernitana
🏟
Saturday 14th May – 2:00PM KO
It still feels unfathomable to those following the league that Salernitana are heading into this match on the penultimate weekend outside of the relegation zone.
They have been in the bottom three for almost the entirety of the campaign but if they can get a win away at Empoli on Saturday, they will have likely secured their place in Serie A for another season.
They will be backing themselves, too. Empoli have been the worst team in Serie A pretty much since they beat Napoli in December. Since then they have managed just one other win, against Napoli again recently to end the Azzurri’s title hopes.
They did well to go 2-0 ahead against Inter at San Siro last weekend but still ended up losing the game. Their players also know that safety is already assured.
Salernitana very nearly got another win last weekend but a 99th-minute equaliser from Cagliari meant they had to settle for just a point.
Davide Nicola is doing a truly amazing job at the end of the campaign and with the momentum that they have gathered, they simply have to be the favourites to take all three points from the Stadio Castellani on Saturday.

Udinese v Spezia
🏟
Saturday 14th May – 5:00PM KO
This game will certainly mean a lot more to Spezia than it will to Udinese as they are not quite out of the woods yet as far as relegation is concerned.
It would take a very specific set of results but Thiago Motta’s side will not be able to sit comfortably until they are mathematically guaranteed of another season in Serie A.
They will have their work cut out though because Udinese have become a very tough side to beat in the second half of the season. Gabriele Cioffi has got them playing an entertaining brand of football that is not really associated with the Friulians over the past few seasons.
They may not have anything to play for now up in 12th place but they are a set of players that are in form and enjoying their football. That is a dangerous thing for Spezia as if Udinese are at their best, there is little they can do to stop them. Spezia are four points ahead of 18th place Cagliari heading into this game and given Cagliari will be playing host to Inter on the Sunday night, they could still end the weekend with their Serie A status assured even if they do suffer a defeat at the Dacia Arena.

Verona v Torino
🏟
Saturday 14th May – 5:00PM KO
The only thing that is really riding on this game is Torino’s desire to finish the season in the top half of the table.
They currently sit 10th and they are level on points with Sassuolo just beneath them. Hellas Verona meanwhile are one place ahead of Torino but have a five-point gap back to the Granata which is unlikely to be closed in the final two games.
One of the more interesting elements is that Torino coach Ivan Juric will be returning to the stadium where he was the coach last season. He is very respected in Verona and will be looking to show that he is still as good a coach as he was with the Gialloblu.
Verona’s new boss, Igor Tudor, has done a wonderful job since he took over partway through the campaign and it is a very good result for them to be almost guaranteed of a top-half finish.
In terms of the match itself, the fact that Torino are so rarely involved in high scoring matches means it is very hard to back any of their games to feature a lot of goalmouth action.
The recent 4-4 draw with Atalanta was very much an outlier as the previous time they conceded more than once in a game was back in late February when they surprisingly lost 2-1 at home to Cagliari.

Roma v Venezia
🏟
Saturday 14th April – 7:45PM KO
Roma have given themselves work to do after they slumped to a 2-0 defeat away at Fiorentina on Monday night.
Jose Mourinho’s side looked devoid of confidence and effort during that game at the Stadio Artemio Franchi and the Portuguese coach will not let them put in another performance like that, especially not in font of their own fans with European football on the line.
Lazio currently occupy fifth place with 62 points and then Roma, Atalanta and Fiorentina have all got 59 points. One of those teams will end up in eighth place without any European football next season.
Roma do of course have trhe safety net of the Europa Conference League final which should they win, will give them a place in the Europa League next season.
Mourinho will not want to rely on that though and he will send his team out all guns blazing against a Venezia side that, despite winning last weekend, aredoomed to relegation.
Their major problem has been that they do not score goals but they did suddenly put four past Bologna in a 4-3 weekend. It is very likely that that was a freak performance and they will do very well to find the back of a net at the Olimpico which will be rocking.
