Brommapojkarna v Halmstad
🏟
Saturday 27th August – 12:00PM KO
Not much needs to be said to build this game up. Given the context of the league table, as well as the form of the two teams, it doesn’t get much bigger in the Swedish second Superettan.
Brommapojkarna, under the management of Christer Mattiasson, have been extremely impressive in the 2022 Superettan campaign and are seeking an automatic promotion back to the top-flight. The home team haven’t played in Sweden’s first-tier since 2018 when they lost the relegation/promotion playoff against AFC Eskilstuna.
They spent last season in the third division but, after losing the playoff in 2020, won Division 1 Norra in 2021 to return to the second division and they haven’t simply viewed survival as success.
They come into this on the back of a thrilling 3-2 win away at relegation-bound Ostersund last weekend. Brommapojkarna trailed that match with little over ten minutes of the 90 to play but eventually won via a 98th minute strike from Richie Omorowa. That made it four successive victories and eight games without a defeat as they sit second in the table.
The hosts are second in the table, seven points adrift of the league leaders that have threatened to runaway with the title – those league leaders are Halmstad.
Following a surprising relegation last season, the visitors stuck by Magnus Haglund and the 49 year-old looks set to lead them to an immediate return to the Allsvenskan.
Halmstad were held to a surprise 1-1 draw at home to Vasteras last weekend, allowing Brommapojkarna to close the gap by two points, but they remain in a very healthy position. That 1-1 draw did extend their own unbeaten run of form to seven matches.
These are two very strong sides that are battling for automatic promotion and both sides are in good form. The two have also played a proactive style of football to reach their current position. In fact, they are the only teams to have scored over 40 goals after 20 games of the season so far, combining for 90 in total. Given the form, record and general context of the match, this should be great for the neutral.

Landskrona v Trelleborg
🏟
Saturday 27th August – 12:00PM KO
This is a match between two sides that are enjoying and enduring two very different runs of form with the run-in set to hold very different things for the two teams.
Landskrona come into this on the back of back-to-back 1-1 draws against Jonkopings Sodra and Brage in their most recent outings. The home team are now winless in their last seven matches.
That run of form means they have drifted into the bottom-half of the table ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures. They sit just three points ahead of Norrby who sit in the promotion/relegation playoff place.
They now face a Trelleborg side that have lost just one of their last six matches as they try and push towards the top three and aim for an unlikely promotion. Their most recent outing was a comfortable 4-2 defeat of strugglers Dalkurd last weekend, making it 14 goals in their last two matches combined.
The visitors sit just a point off Brage who are in the playoff place for promotion into the Swedish top-flight and, under the management of 41 year-old Kristian Haynes, who has been the assistant then caretaker then permanent boss since 2015, will be buoyant and confident about their chances. Whilst Trelleborg’s good form hasn’t been untouchable and they have drawn a fair few games, they will be extremely confident of avoiding defeat against fairly weak and out-of-form opposition

Osters v Ostersund
🏟
Saturday 27th August – 2:00PM KO
Unlike a few other games in the Superettan this weekend, this is one of the games that is expected to be more one-sided that a neutral would prefer.
Under the management of Srdjan Tufegdzic, Osters were expected to challenge for the top three and the promotion spots after a fifth-place finish and extremely positive end to the 2021 campaign.
Well, they most certainly are in the hunt and are challenging for the top three. The home team come into this on the back of a very impressive 3-0 hammering of fellow promotion-chasers Brage, away from home, last weekend. That victory means that the hosts are now unbeaten in their last eight matches and now sit level on points with the aforementioned Brage, who occupy the promotion/relegation playoff place.
They now face an Ostersund side that, following relegation from the Allsvenskan last season, look set for back-to-back demotions as their off-field issues continue to add to their plight.
The financial issues of recent years have never really eased and the visitors look almost certain to drop down into the regional tier of Swedish football. The visitors come into this on the back of a crushing 3-2 loss at home to promotion-chasing Brommapojkarna last weekend to end their run of back-to-back victories.
They have improved of late and even led Brommapojkarna with just over ten minutes of the 90 to go. However, their defensive frailties cost them and they remain firmly at the bottom-of-the-table.
Despite their recent improvement, this match is unlikely to be overly productive for the away team and in-form Osters, especially with their home advantage, will be extremely confident of another victory.
