Brighton have equalled their best ever start to a season, only losing one of their first seven matches and will feel confident after an enthralling 3-3 draw at Anfield in their last game. A 2-goal win here for Brighton would actually move them above Spurs in the league and they will be looking upwards. Despite losing Potter to Chelsea, Brighton still appear to be in a strong place as a club and can move forwards further.
Spurs were disappointing in Europe yet again this week, only managing a 0-0 draw and having just one shot on target and with Kulusevski and Moura injured, there are doubts about the depth of their attack and whether it is good enough to compete across several competitions. After losing in their last league match to Arsenal, Conte will be desperate for Spurs to get back on track and give anything they can to stay in the title fight.
Brighton v Spurs Bet Builder Tips
Both Teams to Score
Brighton’s 3-3 draw with Liverpool at Anfield certainly showed off De Zerbi’s attacking brand of football. With the attacking intent and performance levels displayed in that draw, Brighton fans will have plenty of hope that this successful era for the club can continue. Brighton had been very solid defensively under Potter this season, only conceding 5 goals in 6 matches before conceding 3 goals in their first match under the new manager. De Zerbi is known for the way his teams play out from the back and take risks and Brighton showed all these features against Liverpool.
While Spurs have been getting good results, they haven’t been as defensively strong as many would have expected. While Spurs have scored at least once in all 8 of their league matches, they have conceded in 6 of these, only keeping clean sheets against Nottingham Forest and Wolves, 2 of the worst performing teams in the league. While Spurs seem to have settled now with a back three of Dier, Romero and Lenglet, the suspension of Emerson Royal means Conte will likely bring in Ryan Sessegnon for this match. Sessegnon is not as strong defensively and this will help Brighton create chances.
With Brighton willing to play attacking football which leaves them open at the back against a Spurs team who concede in most their matches, I see both teams scoring in this match.

Prediction: Both Teams to Score
Leandro Trossard to have 1+ Shots on Target
Leandro Trossard was already having a good season before he became just the third player to score a Premier League hat-trick away at Anfield. He has averaged 1.24 shots on target per 90 so far this season and looks to be a key player under De Zerbi. While it is no secret of Trossard’s quality, with the central position he occupies on the pitch, he will be a key player yet again in this match. He has managed a shot on target in 5 of Brighton’s 7 matches this season and had 4 shots on target in the last match against Liverpool.
With Spurs playing just the two of Hojbjerg and Bentancur in the middle, Trossard will be able to find space to operate, with Brighton likely overloading this area of the pitch. Playing in a similar role for Arsenal, Odegaard had 3 shots with one on target against Spurs and for Leicester, James Maddison had a huge 7 shots with 3 on target.
This area is clearly a part of the pitch Spurs are weak at defending and with Trossard in tremendous form he should be able to register at least 1 shot on target in this match.
🎯
Prediction: Leandro Trossard to have 1+ Shots on Target
Harry Kane to have 1+ Shots on Target
Kane has started the season strongly with 7 league goals so far. He has averaged a whopping 1.51 shots on target per 90 and is yet to go without a shot on target in a league match so far this season. Kane is always a key player for Spurs, but this season he has scored big goals at important times, like the last-minute equaliser against Chelsea.
As Tottenham’s penalty taker he gets chances even if he is struggling from open play, but as mentioned, he has hit the target at least once in every game this season. Brighton allowed Liverpool to have 7 shots on goal against them at Anfield, if they allow Spurs similar numbers, it is hard to imagine Kane won’t be responsible for at least one of these.
Of the last 7 goals Brighton have conceded, 2 have been own goals, the rest have all come from the opposition’s striker. With a striker like Kane up against this defence, it is almost guaranteed that Kane will get at least one opportunity where he hits a shot on target in this match.
🎯
Prediction: Harry Kane to have 1+ Shots on Target
Alexis Mac Allister to be Carded
While Brighton had been one of the lowest ranked teams for fouls, under new manager De Zerbi, they committed 13 fouls in their last match. Alexis Mac Allister committed 2 fouls in this match and has committed the second most fouls of any Brighton player this season. Mac Allister has also received the most yellow cards of any Brighton player this season. All 3 of his yellow cards this season have been on opposition midfield players, in attempts to stop counter attacks or having been dribbled past. Mac Allister will be up against Hojbjerg and Bentancur in midfield in this match. Hojbjerg is one of Spurs’ most fouled players, he is their 4th highest so far this season and last year only Kane, Emerson Royal and Moura were fouled more than him. Hojbjerg completes 3.91 progressive carries per 90 and Mac Allister will be one of the opposition players assigned the role of stopping him on these runs.
I did consider the possibility of going with Mac Allister to score or be carded, however, although he is still Brighton’s main penalty taker, he didn’t get forward as often in the last match under the new manager. This newer role, with more defensive responsibility, only increases his chances of being carded so I have backed him to be booked in this match.
