Lamia v Volos

Despite being solid enough to avoid a thrashing at the hands of reigning champions Olympiacos last weekend, Lamia failed to find the back of the net for the third game in a row. Gianluca Festa’s men have scored just three goals in 10 games so far this season, having recorded a sole 1-0 win against second-bottom Levadiakos.

Considered as one of the least exciting teams in the Greek Super League, Lamia tend to sit deep and soak up pressure and this has helped them secure a respectable four clean sheets, having conceded just one goal per game thus far despite having already faced all Big-4 sides (Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, AEK and PAOK).

Meanwhile, Volos have impressed so far in 2021/22 and have managed to deservedly sneak into the first spots of the table, as only two teams have picked up more points than Kostas Bratsos’ side. In fact, only Panathinaikos (10) and AEK (8) have managed more wins than Volos (6), who have racked up more points than all but two teams away from home.

Only leaders Panathinaikos, who remain unbeaten, and Volos have avoided defeat on the road thus far, with Bratsos’ men having recorded three wins and a draw away from home. After being thrashed 5-1 at the hands of Panathinaikos on home soil, Volos are willing to return to winning ways away at Lamia, who do not have it takes to defeat a team who have lost just one of their last eight games (6W, 1D, 1L).

Lamia have won just one of their last nine games against Volos, who comfortably beat their upcoming rivals 3-0 back in April. The visitors have what it takes to avoid defeat away at an unconvincing Lamia side.

PAOK v PAS Giannina

Despite getting off to a strong start away at second-placed AEK Athens, PAOK failed to get something from the game at the OPAP Arena, as they deservedly lost 2-0 to Matias Almeyda’s side. The Thessaloniki-based team have been anything but impressive so far this season, with coach Razvan Lucescu being under scrutiny, as PAOK have won just one of their last seven games.

PAOK need to get back to winning ways and they will try to do so with the help of the home support at the Toumba Stadium, where they have recorded three of their four wins this season. Curiously, PAOK haven’t won any of their last three games on home soil (2D, 1L) after starting the season with three consecutive victories.

In order to grab their fifth win in 11 games this season, PAOK need to break down a PAS Giannina side, who received a boost in confidence following a 2-1 win against a solid Asteras Tripolis side last weekend. This was PAS’ first win in seven games (1W, 2D, 4L) and these three points allowed coach Thanasis Staikos to breathe after a slow start to the season with just one victory in nine games.

For PAS, the PAOK clash is one of the matches which no one would expect the team to get something from. The Giannina-based side have yet to win away from home. In fact, only bottom-placed Levadiakos (0) have picked up fewer points than PAS (1) on the road this season.

Meanwhile, PAOK are aware that this is a first-class chance for the team to register a win, this being their easiest home fixture before the World Cup break.

PAOK have won nine of their last 11 games against PAS, while only one of the 20 games the two teams have played so far has ended with over 4.5 goals. Both teams will be satisfied with a narrow PAOK victory here.

Panaitolikos v Levadiakos

Following a solid start to the season, Panaitolikos have struggled to rediscover their form lately, registering two defeats and two draws in their last four games. In fact, Panaitolikos have managed just one victory in their last seven games and they are willing to get back to winning ways ahead of a tough duel against leaders Panathinaikos next week.

Seventh-placed Panaitolikos have impressed on the road (2W, 3D, 1L), but they have lost all their last three games on home soil, being the second-worst team in the Greek Super League in terms of points gathered (3) at home so far this season. However, it has to be noted that all four teams with whom they played at home are stronger, wealthier sides which currently sit in the top-6.

In fact, the game against second-bottom Levadiakos is the easiest fixture Panaitolikos will have played before the World Cup break. This is a must-win match for Giannis Anastasiou’s men, who have played well thus far despite having registered just one win on home soil. The game will be attended by former Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman, who has been invited by his former teammate at Ajax and current Panaitolikos coach, Anastasiou. This is huge news for the small city of Agrinio, who are ready to welcome Koeman, with Panaitolikos players and Anastasiou being willing to impress the Dutchman.

To do so, they need to grab a victory against a Levadiakos side, who have just received a boost in confidence after grabbing their first victory this season in the home fixture against Atromitos last weekend. Yet, Levadiakos are still considered one of the worst teams in Greece, currently sitting second-bottom in the table.

Levadiakos have grabbed just one point from six games away from home, recording one draw and five defeats on the road, where they have scored just two goals and conceded nine. No team have recorded more defeats than Levadiakos thus far and the visitors are not expected to avoid a loss for the second game in a row – something they have not managed thus far.
