Although the festive period may be coming to an end, there is still some footballing action to keep you entertained. From a betting perspective, the most exciting game on Thursday night sees Brighton host Tottenham.
The Seagulls sit in ninth place in the Premier League table and are coming into this game off the back of a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace. Over their last five league games, they have only managed one win, partly due to the high number of injuries De Zerbi has had to deal with. Key players Solly March, Pervis Estupinan, and Julio Enciso are all still expected to be sidelined until late January.
The visitors come into this game off the back of a three-game win streak, breaking their bad run of games throughout all of November and early December where they only managed one point in five matches. They currently sit in fourth place and will have their sights fixed on a top-four finish.

Now for our breakdown and match preview with some recommended bets…
⚽ Match stats: Both sides are scoring lots of goals
Brighton are averaging 1.89 goals per game, with goals coming from plenty of players all over the pitch. Pascal Gross currently has Brighton’s most goal contributions, having scored three and assisted six, however Kaoru Mitoma, Joao Pedro and Evan Ferguson are all not far behind.
With plenty of talent up top, Brighton have only failed to score a goal in one game this season; a 2-0 away defeat to Arsenal, the current league leaders.
Despite being strong in attack, Brighton have one of the worst defensive records in the league. The Seagulls have failed to keep a single clean sheet this season, conceding an average of 1.72 goals per game. They are the only team in the league who have failed to do shut their opposition out at least once.
Spurs are equally strong in attack, averaging 2.06 goals scored per game. This ranks them third-highest in the league – one goal behind Aston Villa and three behind Man City. Heung-min Son has been leading from the front this campaign, with 15 goal contributions to his name (11G 4A).
They have been conceding 1.33 goals per game, most of which have come more recently – seemingly after the injury of starting centre back Micky van de Ven. Since van de Ven came off injured against Chelsea, Spurs have conceded two or more goals in five of eight games.
This narrative of a high number of match goals also plays in well to the both teams to score market. Brighton have seen this market land in 17 out of 18 of their matches so far, with Tottenham having it land in 13 out of 18.
Predictions:
⚽ Both teams to score @ 1.36
⚽ Over 2.5 match goals @ 1.44
🎯 Shooting stats: Son is having lots of chances under Ange
Since Kane’s departure in the Summer, Son has been given plenty of chances under Ange Postecoglou. He has taken at least one shot in every league game this season, averaging 2.41 per match. In fact, Son has taken at least one SOT in 15/18 matches, averaging 1.23 per game.
Further, Son likes to play against Brighton. Last time he played them was back in April, scoring a beautiful goal from outside the box, curling it into the top right and leaving the keeper helpless. In the other match he played against The Seagulls last season, Son earned himself a man of the match performance. Although he did not make it on the score sheet this time, he took two shots (1 on target) and assisted Kane’s goal.
Given their weak defensive form, Son can be expected to cause plenty of issues for Brighton on Thursday night.
Predictions:
⚽ Son Heung-min to have 1+ shot on target @ 1.40
⚽ Son Heung-min to have 2+ shots on target @ 2.88
⚽ Son Heung-min to score or assist @ 2.10
🛑 Fouls stats: Brighton and Spurs have a habit of picking up bookings
Brighton rank 4th in the league for the number of yellow cards they have picked up (48). Tottenham sit just below them in 6th place, picking up 47 bookings so far. Spurs have also picked up the most amount of red cards this season (4), one of which was awarded last week to Yves Bissouma for a reckless challenge on Ryan Yates.
The Seagulls have received an average 2.78 bookings, with their opponents averaging 3.28 cards per game. For Spurs, they have seen higher averages of 3.06 cards for, and 3.39 cards against.
Further, the referee in charge of this clash, Jarred Gillet, has been issuing a high number of cards this season, averaging 5.25 per match. For reference, this is ranks him amongst the harshest refs in the league, with the average number of cards a referee issuing this season being lower at 4.29.
Predictions:
🟨 Over 3.5 match cards @ 1.13
🟨 Over 4.5 match cards @ 1.40
Predictions:
⚽ Over 3.5 total cards @ 1.13
⚽ Over 4.5 total cards @ 1.40
