Arsenal will travel to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham as these sides meet for the second time this season. The game at the Emirates Stadium saw the teams share the spoils in a 2-2 draw and another exciting and interesting game is in store here. This game will be both sides’ last of 2023 and they’ll be keen to end the year on a high, so that should make for an open and expansive contest.
Marco Silva will be somewhat perplexed by Fulham’s recent form as back-to-back 5-0 victories over Nottingham Forest and West Ham United have been followed by three consecutive defeats, all without scoring a goal. That string of results leaves them in thirteenth place, just six points above the relegation zone, and Silva will be keen to arrest that slide to prevent a relegation battle.
Mikel Arteta will certainly be demanding a positive reaction from his Arsenal side following their recent 2-0 home defeat at the hands of West Ham United, despite dominating the game. That result saw them miss the chance to go above Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table, but a win here will ensure that they end the year at the summit with Jurgen Klopp’s side in action on New Year’s Day.

🏆 Match stats: Gunners to get back on track
Arteta will have been left frustrated by his side’s performance against West Ham United and will demand a reaction from his squad and they are fancied to bounce back against an out of sorts Fulham side, especially at a venue where they have enjoyed plenty of success down the years. In fact, the Gunners have won twelve of the previous sixteen head to heads here, including the last five.
The form of the centre-back partnership for the visitors has been paramount this season. Gabriel and William Saliba have been incredible, especially with Declan Rice protecting in front. Their form has ensured Arsenal hold the best defensive record in the league when playing away from home as they have conceded just eight goals on their travels and it’s difficult to see a misfiring Fulham scoring here.
The two 5-0 wins papered over the cracks of Fulham’s offensive issues, as aside from those results, they have been poor with only Nottingham Forest and the bottom three having less shots this term. In stark contrast the visitors are blessed with attacking options and they are backed to provide all sorts of problems for Silva’s defence, especially as they have conceded eight in their last three games.
Predictions:
⚽ Arsenal to win @ 1.50
🎯 Shooting stats: Leno in for a Busy Afternoon
Interestingly, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are the only clubs that have registered more shots than the Gunners this season, and that’s certainly an angle to focus on. Arteta’s side have amassed a total of 306 in their nineteen matches so far, with an average of five per game hitting the target. Fired up following their defeat last time out, expect them to come flying out of the traps on the front foot.
In the previous head to head game, Arsenal had eleven shots on target, but it’s the volume at Craven Cottage that catches the eye. In their last four visits here, they have registered seven, six, seven and nine. Backing them to have five or six during the course of 90 minutes, especially against a Fulham back line low on confidence makes plenty of sense.
One player that represents plenty of value for a shot on target is Gabriel Martinelli. The Brazilian has taken 29 shots this campaign (2.14 per game) in the league with ten testing the goalkeeper at a rate of 0.74 per 90 minutes. In the reverse fixture, Martinelli gave Tete a torrid afternoon in the 2-2 draw back in August, taking four shots during the game with three of those finding the target.
Predictions:
⚽ Arsenal to have 5+ shots on target @ 1.33
⚽ Arsenal to have 6+ shots on target @ 1.73
⚽ Gabriel Martinelli to have 1+ shots on target @ 1.44
⛳ Corner stats: Arsenal King of the Corner Count
Arsenal currently lead the league by a country mile in terms of the number of corners won this season. The visitors have won a staggering 154 in just nineteen matches which works out at an average of 8.10 per game. Liverpool are the next best side with 126 whereas Fulham have earned just 94 which works out at 4.94 per game. Therefore backing Arteta’s side on the corner match bet is sensible.
Arsenal are also likely to have the lion’s share of possession here as they average 60.3% in their games versus 50.6% for Fulham. With that comes more opportunities to win corners and with the likes of the wide players such as Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli taking on the full backs and hitting the byline, there is every chance they rack up a number of corners, probably more than Fulham.
Arsenal have also won the corner match bet in the last six head-to-head matches against Fulham. Not only that but they have also been dominant in the majority of games this campaign with only Aston Villa preventing the Gunners from winning this particular market in the last twelve games, and they are strongly fancied once again. Considering the analysis, the price is tempting.
Predictions:
⚽ Arsenal corner match bet @ 1.40
🛑 Fouls stats: Watch out for Saka and Robinson
Antonee Robinson is certainly a standout when it comes to fouls watch, especially as he’s likely to be tasked with marking the tricky Bukayo Saka. The American has already committed eighteen fouls so far this campaign in as many games and it’s more than conceivable that he attracts the attention of Josh Smith, especially if he gets forward as he often likes to do, and is then caught on the counter.
Saka is one of the league’s most fouled players having been brought down a total of 42 times in just the eighteen games he’s played, which is an average of 2.33 per game. Only Jordan Ayew, Bruno Guimarães and Lucas Paquetá have drawn more fouls this season and the Arsenal man it’s likely to cause all sorts of problems, not only for Robinson, but for the entire Fulham back line.
Interestingly, in this game last season where Arsenal ran out 3-0 winners, this particular battle was evident. During the match Robinson committed two fouls and Saka was brought down twice and this is certainly a key battle to keep an eye on here. Taking the Fulham left back to commit just one foul makes plenty of sense and backing the Arsenal winger to be fouled a couple of times does too.
Predictions:
⚽ Antonee Robinson to commit 1+ fouls @ 1.29
⚽ Bukayo Saka to win 2+ fouls @ 1.33
