Having licked their wounds after suffering a first defeat under Philippe Clement against Celtic in their final outing of 2023, the Gers have bounced back solidly. Kilmarnock were seen off 3-1 at Ibrox on 2nd January before League Two outfit Dumbarton were dismissed 4-1 at the weekend as the Belgian boss named a strong team for the encounter.
Eight points behind Celtic, albeit with two games in hand, the Ibrox club have little option but to give this match everything they have, despite a potentially awkward trip to St Mirren looming at the weekend.
Hibs, meanwhile, are not enjoying the season they might have wished. The arrival of Nick Montgomery as manager early in the campaign has brought more solidarity to the Edinburgh club, but they are lacking the type of consistency that might be expected of them.
Certainly, the laboured manner in which they beat League Two strugglers Forfar at the weekend offers little confidence that they can end a seven-match winless streak against Rangers, which includes six defeats.

🏆 Match stats: Rangers to come through again
Rangers start this match as 1.29 favourites, which is little surprise given the respective form of these two clubs. Philippe Clement has led his side to victories in nine of their last 10 matches while Hibs have won just one of their last five in the Premiership, with that success coming against bottom side Livingston.
Historically, meanwhile, this has been a high-scoring fixture. Each of the last five occasions these teams have faced each other, there have been at least four goals in the game. In their previous meeting this term, Rangers ran out comfortable 4-0 winners, which the Gers also winning both fixtures in the capital by at least two goals last term.
Goals this time around are perhaps less likely. Montgomery has tightened Hibs up somewhat. Five of their last eight in the league have seen under 2.5 goals, while they also ground out a 0-0 home draw against Celtic back in October.
Rangers, meanwhile, are not a spectacular side under Clement. Only one of their five league away matches under the new boss have seen three goals or more, conceding only once in this run.
Look for this to be a tighter game, with the value on Rangers to win with a -1.5 handicap.
Predictions:
⚽ Rangers (-1.5 handicap) @ 2.10
🟨 Cards stats: Newell and Cantwell ready for battle
Hibs are liable to commit fouls in the centre of midfield, with Joe Newell the likeliest criminal. He posts 1.49 fouls per 90, behind only Christian Doidge, who may well start on the bench. With Newell up against Cantwell, who draws 2.34 fouls per match, this is going to be an interesting battle to watch with regards to cards.
Newell has been booked seven times in the league already this season, with Cantwell having been shown four yellows in the league and eight in all competitions. Indeed, it is the former Norwich player who looks likeliest to be booked for the visitors in this encounter, especially since he has been playing deeper under Clement.
Nick Montgomery has a big decision to make at right back. Where Rory Whittaker or Kanayo Megwa, who has been recalled from Airdrie, will likely face Rabbi Matondo, who with 2.9 fouls won per 90, is a major dribbling threat. Neither of the youngsters are prone to picking up bookings, but this is exactly the type of game that will test their discipline and skill to the full.
Rangers’ full backs James Tavernier and Ridvan Yilmaz are typically clean, but up against Jair Tavares and Elie Youan, two direct runners who love to dribble, either could be forced into a tactical foul to thwart a break, heightening the risk of a yellow card.
Referee Steven McLean, meanwhile, has shown at least five cards in four of the five Premiership matches he has overseen this season.
Predictions:
⚽ Joe Newell to be shown a card @ 2.70
⚽ Todd Cantwell to be shown a card @ 4.50
🚩 Corners stats: Look for Gers to dominate
The statistics show this is likely to be a match with few corners. Rangers should dictate the play, yet their style is not one that typically sees many situations such as this in games, particularly away from home. On their travels, the Gers’ matches are averaging only total 8.5 corners per game, the lowest in the league.
Rangers, meanwhile, win 5.7 corners per match on their travels, below only Celtic and Kilmarnock.
Hibs, on the other hand, concede an average of 5 corners per game at home, which is bang average in the Scottish Premiership. The prospect of them winning as many flag kicks as 6.1, their standard for the season, appears slim given that their guests give up a stingy 2.8 on their travels – by far the lowest on average in the league.
When the sides previously met at Ibrox, Rangers edged the number of corners won 5-4 but might be expected to dominate this category more at Easter Road.
Predictions:
⚽ Rangers corner match bet @ 1.22
