If Carlsberg did international breaks they’d probably be very similar to the one Steve Clarke’s men just went through. Two wins from two to take us almost certainly to a World Cup play-off will do just nicely and that’s before the late drama both games provided us fans. It was an ideal two-week break from domestic duties but we’re back and Saturday looks a prime day of cinch action.
There’s a full Premiership card to play around with, as well as bountiful games across the lower leagues too. The top flight is where I’ll start as per, in a tie that pits the team in fourth (who I think will lose) against the team in sixth (who I think will win).
Motherwell v Celtic

Scottish Premiership
There’s an argument that neither Motherwell nor Celtic would’ve wanted the most recent international bream to fall when it did, with Motherwell occupying a spot in the top four and Celtic finally vanquishing their away day hoodoo. That 2-1 win at Pittodrie could be massive for Ange’s men and it could act as the perfect launch pad to get their season properly underway.
While he maybe would’ve wanted to keep the games and feel-good factor coming, the two week break from action has allowed some of those big names on the Parkhead treatment room to get back into the first-team fold. Christopher Jullien, Josip Juranovic and James Forrest could all play some part this weekend at Fir Park after spells out in what is a very timely return ahead of a busy period.
Motherwell will be no stroll in the park though. Yet, I can’t help but feel their spot in the table is a little inflated and they’re likely to drop back into the pack as the campaign goes on. They’ve picked up just a point in the three games they’ve played against the three sides above them in the standings. 12 of their 14 points captured so far have come against the current bottom four. Though Celtic have had their teething issues under Postecoglou, they should be able to wrap up all three points in a game that looks quite good for goals betting too.

Prediction: Celtic to Win
Raith v Arbroath
🏟
Saturday 16th October – 3:00PM Kick Off

Scottish Championship
The first of a Championship double header takes us to Stark’s Park where two of the most impressive sides over the opening months of the campaign in Raith and Arbroath meet. Just a solitary point separates them in the Play-Off spots, with both in contention of rivalling the more-fancied Inverness and Killie above them over the course of the season.
Only Partick Thistle have scored more than these two sides, with each of Raith and Arbroath spreading the goals around their talented squads. A front two of Michael McKenna and Joel Nouble and been hugely prolific for Dick Campbell’s Arbroath and although Nouble will almost certainly return to Livi in January, there’s plenty of time for the dangerous duo to get some goals and points on the board before then. Raith’s Dario Zanatta is the man on the opposite end most likely to chip in with a goal or two in this one, as he’s really hit the ground running and delivering on his considerable potential so far in Kirkaldy.
Raith have managed just two clean sheets since the start of league season and have struggled to keep out the more dangerous sides they’ve faced this campaign, with Arbroath very much fitting into that category. Five of Arbroath’s eight Championship games have landed Over 2.5 Goals, something that I think will happen again this weekend with a trip to a lively Raith likely to produce a fair few goals.

Inverness v Morton

Scottish Championship
Concluding the Championship double header and Billy Dodds’ Caley should still be top of the standings come 17:00 on Saturday afternoon, having sewn up all three points as they host a poor Morton side.
The defeat at Hamilton a couple of Saturday’s ago was Inverness’ first slip-up since the league season started but a 4-2 comeback win over Elgin in the Challenge Cup over the international break was the perfect way to bounce back and get on the winning trail once again. I’ve not always been too keen on Inverness this season but they do have a lot of talent, particularly in forward areas and with the back five looking reliable they always have a chance of registering all three points, as they have done in six of their opening eight Championship games.
Though a penalty shoot-out win over League One Montrose stopped the rot somewhat, Morton are still without a win in their last six Championship games, winning just once all this campaign. They don’t look like pulling away from those around them and given the resources at Dunfermline’s disposal, you’ve got to imagine it could be a long relegation battle for Gus MacPherson’s side this season, one that isn’t about to get any easier this weekend. 13 points separate these two after just eight games of the new season, and I can see that tally stretching even further come full time on Saturday evening.

Clyde v Montrose

Scottish League One
What a division League One is shaping up to be, just eight points separate top of the pile Queen’s Park and second from bottom Peterhead. Though sat in eighth and sixth, Clyde and Montrose aren’t far from the summit themselves and that’s largely down to the scoring prowess of their leading marksmen.
Clyde’s David Goodwille and Montrose’s Graham Webster are scoring for fun this season. They’ve got a whopping 17 between them this campaign already – and I wouldn’t bet against that combined tally becoming at least 20 this weekend to take get us a tick here.
Eight of Clyde’s nine League games have landed Over 2.5 goals this season, with the only loser in this market coming in a routine 2-0 victory over basement boys East Fife, which is far from a cause for concern in my eyes. They’re woeful at the back but have the best striker outside of the top two divisions in Scotland in Goodwillie which means they’re always a threat, even if very porous at the other end. That suits us and in facing a talented Montrose outfit they could ship all three goals we need here, though I don’t think we’ll need that to be the case to get a winner.
