🏆 Romania v Netherlands
📅
Kick Off: Tuesday 2nd July at 17:00
⚽ Cody Gakpo to score or assist
📈
Odds: 2.00
In a rich vein of form, Gakpo enters his side’s first knockout match against a weaker Romania XI. He’s netted twice so far; the first in his opener against Poland and then more recently against Austria.
He looked sharp in his five qualifying matches, scoring three times and producing an average of a goal every 91 minutes. This wasn’t the first time he demonstrated his clinical nature on the international stage, having scored three from just 0.31xG in the World Cup.
Last season in the Premier League he averaged 0.72 xG + xA per 90 for Liverpool, an impressive feat against such tough opposition. Perhaps even more impressive was his 1.08 average in his last Eredivisie campaign.
The bookies clearly think the chances will come The Netherlands’ way, pricing them as short as 1.53 to score 2+ goals and it’d be a surprise if the Liverpool man isn’t in and amongst the action.
🏆 Austria v Turkey
📅
Kick Off: Tuesday 2nd July at 20:00
⚽ Marcel Sabitzer to score or assist
📈
Odds: 2.40
Clearly relishing the opportunity to play in a more offensive position, Sabitzer has been operating as both an attacking midfielder and a left midfielder/winger for Austria.
As a result, his underlying numbers are pretty good, averaging 0.5 xG + xA per 90 during the group stage. In qualifying, the Austrian bagged himself 4 goals and 2 assists in just 7 games, averaging a goal contribution per 62 minutes.
This is aided by the fact he’s Austria’s first-choice pen and free-kick taker.
The last time these sides met was in March of this year, resulting in a 6-1 thrashing of Turkey. If that’s anything to go by we can expect goals, with the Austria attacker’s favourites to cash in.
