Burton Albion v Wigan Athletic
🏟
Tuesday 12th April – 7:45PM KO
Wigan Athletic travel to Burton Albion on Tuesday evening with a great chance to enhance their standing as League One title favourites. Leam Richardson’s men have been ruthless in the last few months and have put themselves in a strong position to return to the Championship after just a two season absence, a remarkable achievement considering the off-pitch complications they have faced.
The Latics were home and hosed with time to spare in a 3-1 win over Lincoln City at Sincil Bank on Saturday, allowing Richardson to take off key man Will Keane for the closing exchanges. Burton have kept just one clean sheet in their last 22 matches, which was in their goalless draw with Plymouth Argyle on Saturday. Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink’s men have won just one in nine, have nothing to play for and will be without livewire attacking midfielder Jonny Smith, due to injury.
The Latics currently boast a six point cushion on third placed Rotherham United, and boosting or sustaining that with a victory would be huge at this stage of the season. Wigan have handled the pressure extremely well in the last few months and with plenty of leaders in the squad, they should get over the line at the Pirelli Stadium.

Portsmouth v Rotherham United
🏟
Tuesday 12th April – 7:45PM KO
There is certainly value on Rotherham United at Portsmouth for my money, with something of an overreaction taking place with the market after the Millers’ 1-0 defeat at home to Charlton Athletic on Saturday. The Addicks were surprise winners in that match thanks to a George Dobson wonder-strike, the defensive midfielder’s first goal of the season and it will only fuel their motivation to make amends on the South Coast.
Paul Warne will get a reaction of some kind and with Jordi Osei-Tutu, Joshua Kayode and Mickel Miller to bring in to freshen up the side, Rotherham should be stronger favourites. Pompey are winless in their last five, only finding the net once in that run and lost the reverse fixture 4-1 in South Yorkshire. Danny Cowley’s men have nothing to play for and could face some friction from the stands in the midst of what has been a difficult run, falling away from the play-off picture rather dramatically.
The Millers have sustained a very high performance level this season and data wise have been the most consistent team in the third tier. With Warne’s experience of getting promoted from this division twice before, they should be able to take something from their trip to Fratton Park.
