Wednesday’s Early Kick-Off Champions League Double Tips
Real Madrid v Union Berlin
Union Berlin will travel to the Spanish capital to face Real Madrid on Wednesday evening. Could the German side have a tougher start to their first ever Champions League campaign?
Real Madrid continued their perfect La Liga record on Sunday night, beating Real Sociedad 2-1 at home. Goals have come from various sources for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, but no player has stood out as much as Jude Bellingham. The Englishman has an impressive record in this competition, registering five goal contributions in seven appearances for Dortmund last term. Vinicius Junior will miss this fixture due to injury; however, in his absence, Joselu has exceeded expectations so far by scoring in each of his last two starts.
Union Berlin kicked off their Bundesliga campaign with back-to-back 4-1 wins against Mainz and Darmstadt; however, Urs Fischer’s side have since seen a decline in form, with defeats against RB Leipzig and Wolfsburg. The manager will be concerned with his side’s defensive record as they have failed to keep a clean sheet whilst conceding seven in their first four games. After the two opening games, Union Berlin’s attacking output has been poor and they’ve scored just once despite registering 22 attempts on goal.
Following a strong start domestically, Los Blancos will be disappointed if they fail to win their first Champions League fixture. Union Berlin’s weaknesses at both ends have been exposed in recent games and the hosts will be ready to pounce should this continue.
Galatasaray v Copenhagen
The champions of both Turkey and Denmark will face each other on Wednesday evening, as Galatasaray welcome Copenhagen to Rams Park.
This summer saw a very productive transfer window for Galatasaray with plenty of exciting arrivals. Notable signings include the trio of Angelino, Hakim Ziyech and Wilfried Zaha. Whilst the new arrivals have been finding their feet some of Galatasaray’s key players from last season have once again stepped up, with the likes of Mauro Icardi, Kerem Akturkoglu and Lucas Torreira performing well.
Last season, Icardi and Akturkoglu contributed to 49 goals between them and look to be heading in the same direction this campaign, with the pair already registering a combined 11 goal contributions in four appearances. Gala have not lost a competitive game since April and currently sit second in the Turkish Super Lig after picking up ten points from a possible 12.
Copenhagen struggled in the Champions League last season, bowing out in the group stages after scoring only one goal and failing to win a game. The Danish side are again top of the Superliga, having lost only one of eight games.
Despite their impressive domestic success, Copenhagen’s squad does not possess the same level of quality as that of the hosts. Okan Buruk’s Galatasaray side definitely have the ability to take all three points.
18+ please gamble responsibly.
